Henry Cejudo Takes Blame After Almost Coming to Blows With Colby Covington in Celebrity Poker Tour

4 min read

Colby Covington appears to be nearing the twilight of his UFC run, having dropped his last two bouts. His most recent was a lopsided defeat at the hands of Joaquin Buckley, where he was thoroughly outclassed from start to finish. While away from the Octagon, ‘Chaos’ has kept himself busy with his trademark antics. He most recently stirred the pot by hiding Belal Muhammad‘s food at the UFC Performance Institute. Outside the gym, the former interim champion has been highly active on Kick, frequently live-streaming, and even joined a poker tournament over the weekend.

At the poker tournament, Covington crossed paths with former UFC double champ Henry Cejudo. ‘Triple C’, just like him, appears to be approaching the final chapter of his fighting career after a string of underwhelming performances. Cejudo recently faced a personal setback when his home was broken into, and his original UFC championship belt was stolen. It later surfaced online and was listed for sale.

Colby couldn’t resist taking a jab at Cejudo, mocking him for having no belts to his name and going so far as to liken him to Bilbo Baggins from The Lord of the Rings, and tensions flared fast. Championship Rounds shared the video on their X account where the two traded heated words, with the exchange nearly escalating into a full-blown altercation. “Send him back to the shire,” Covington said as he mocked the former dual champion’s height.

“He can’t win s—t, he can’t win s—t,” Cejudo responded with a brutal reminder to Covington. Kamaru Usman, during their Pound 4 Pound podcast, played the video of the altercation in which Cejudo can be heard saying, “Double champ, Olympic champ, you ain’t got s—t,”. The verbal battle still continued, and Covington responded with, “I’ll still knock your a— out you bum, remember you’re a little guy and you’ll get knocked the f—k out,”.

However, while speaking to Usman, Cejudo pointed out he might have just taken things a bit too far. He said, “I don’t know. Maybe I was talking to Dukan last night. Yeah, I had a couple of drinks. I was just having fun, dude. But you know what, dude? Honestly, dude, I just had two drinks, but then I don’t know. Maybe it was my fault, Kamaru. Honestly. I was trying to be cool. Like I really was.”

Well, his now podcast partner, Kamaru Usman, was once a bitter rival of Covington. The two have faced each other twice in their career, with ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ coming out on top on both occasions. So are they still rivals at this stage of their career? Let us find out about it below.

Kamaru Usman feels Colby Covington brought out the best in him

“I fought a lot of cheaters in the UFC… Kamaru Usman, who’s obviously on steroids. You look at him; he looks like a lab project,”. These were the exact words of ‘Chaos’ while speaking at the Digital Social Hour show. However, it seems Usman has made peace with one of his old rivals. During a candid conversation with Josh Thomson and John McCarthy on the Weighing In podcast, Kamaru Usman looked back on his fiery rivalry with Colby Covington.

In a surprising moment of reflection, Usman gave credit where it was due, recognizing Covington as a formidable opponent. He even confessed that the adrenaline-fueled intensity of their battles had a certain addictive quality—an edge-of-your-seat thrill that few matchups could replicate.

While speaking on the show, the former champion said, “I know people can’t believe that I would go ‘credit to Colby Covington”. Usman further added, “I used to hear it all the time, where people say ‘you need a great dance partner,’ and he was that. In that first fight, it was so much tension where it challenged me so much to prepare, to train, and to go out there and get it locked into the zone, it’s almost addictive—that zone where it’s like ‘I don’t care what happens.” Well, it seems this old rivalry has ended, but ‘Chaos’ has found himself a new one in Cejudo.
