Heartbroken by Team’s Disqualification, Jade Carey Opens Up About Competing Solo in NCAA Gymnastics Championships

Oregon State’s night in Tuscaloosa? Absolutely gutting. They came in with hope, with fire, with Jade Carey. But gymnastics can be cruel, and when the final scores dropped, the Beavers ended up in fourth place with a 196.875. Just like that, the dream of heading to Fort Worth as a team was over. Cal snuck past, Alabama nailed beam, Florida did what Florida does, and Oregon State? They were left asking what more we could have done. Beam wobbles here, landings there… it all added up. Painfully. And yet, hey, there’s a silver lining, right? After all, Jade Carey didn’t just show up. She showed out. With a lights-out 39.700 in the all-around, she qualified as an individual. While Carey is happy for her accomplishment, she is heartbroken that the team is not making it through, and she has something to say now!

When asked how she copes with the disappointment of qualifying for NCAA nationals alone for the fourth time, as an individual, not with her team, Jade Carey didn’t hide the emotion behind her words: “Yeah, I’ve honestly wanted nothing more than to get our whole team to nationals. It’s been a huge goal of mine, and I feel like we are really close this year and had a really strong shot.”

She paused, reflected, and added: “But just to know that they’re all going to be at home supporting me, and some are actually even going to come to Texas and be there in person. So that really means a lot ….. they’re all there for me and that I’m still representing our whole team while I’m there is really special and I’m really excited.”

The story is developing…
