April 17-19, Fort Worth, TX, Dickies Arena – The day and place where everything goes down. Months of practice from different teams for that one trophy. The likes of Jordan Chiles, teammates of Olivia Dunne are training for the 2025 NCAA women’s gymnastics championships while Jade Carey and co do not. “It never mattered where we were or who we were up against – we always felt your presence. Thank you, Beaver Nation, for your incredible support this year. We can’t wait to see you again ” wrote beavers as they failed to qualify for NCAA finals but what would be more heartbreaking for the fans is this career update from their senior.
Sage Thompson took to Instagram to announce her farewell from collegiate gymnastics. “Gymnastics taught me so many life lessons, brought amazing memories, as well as amazing friends. I am ending the sport with the same love I had for it when I first started.” She was in kindergarten when she was introduced to gymnastics through a 30-minute class at her kindergarten Montessori school. The next thing she knew, she asked her mother to enroll her in real gymnastics.
She also wrote, “Thank you to all of my coaches and teammates for being a part of my journey and growth. Thank you to my Mom, family, and friends for always being there for me no matter what. And thank you to all the fans for your support.” Her collegiate gymnastics career began at Utah, where she was under coach Tom Farden. Later, she joined the Oregon State University’s gymnastics team ahead of the 2024 NCAA season. Here she had head coach Tanya Chaplin training her.
“Excited for my next chapter, but this one will always hold a special place in my heart,” she concluded. Whatever the next chapter, maybe, this is the end of a very beautiful one. 2019 Junior Olympic uneven bars national champion, 2024 Pac-12 Honorable Mention, 2023 Pac-12 Winter Academic Honor Roll – these are some accolades that glitter on her wall.
Sage Thompson would have been even happier when her batchmate and teammate, 2-time Olympic Gold medalist, Jade Carey commented on her post, “proud of you!!” Carey wrote. The two of them have had their special moments together at OSU.
