“He Wasted His Prime” – Fans Aggravate Conor McGregor’s Misery as Chael Sonnen Delivers Career Ending Verdict

“Last week something happened to me. I went to The White House and my country is…my heart bleeds for my country right now. So there’s a lot of stuff going on back home. Last week something happened to me. I went to The White House and my country is…my heart bleeds for my country right now. So there’s a lot of stuff going on back home.” Conor McGregor stated last week at the BKFC 70 presser.

All indicators are pointing in one direction. The Irishman is done and he would never fight again in the UFC. The Dubliner, of course, has announced that he is planning to venture into politics after meeting President Donald Trump at The White House on St. Patrick’s Day. And with the aforementioned presser stunner, ‘The Notorious’ has all but confirmed that he won’t fight in Dana White’s promotion again. Even though the former UFC champ didn’t completely rule out a return to the Octagon, the writing is on the wall and has been for quite some time.

‘Mystic Mac’, of course, hasn’t fought for the past four years. And even when the Dubliner was active, he was on a steep downward decline. For the unversed, McGregor lost the last three of his four fights. The Irishman’s fighting days are in his rearview mirror and politics are on his horizon. In fact, verbose UFC commentator and former title contender Chael Sonnen feels that the Irishman better not return to the UFC unless he wants to get humiliated.

“What part of it would he come back for?…. He’s got a beating standing in front of him. We can go ’55, we can go ’70, we can make up a weight class, and there is not an athlete under contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship located in Southern Nevada that he can beat…..When they bring him back, they put him in a main event and all of a sudden you’re asking him to do five rounds. We’ve got a guy who can’t breathe for a full round. This is just a reality. There’s nothing to come back for. And there’s no reason to come back. There’s an a—whooping waiting for you, apparently life is good without it. He can still make headlines without it.” Uncle Chael’ said on his YouTube channel.

Of course, Sonnen tends to exaggerate for theatrical effect at times, and his statements are thus to be taken with a grain of salt. But in this case, he seems to be spot-on. Well, maybe he’s exaggerating a little bit. There are at least some athletes in the promotion ‘Mystic Mac’ could beat. But the point Sonnen is trying to make is that the Irishman will not even be able to compete against any known names or stars in his chosen weight divisions. And you know what, fans agreed with Sonnen here.

Fans react to Chael Sonnen trashing Conor McGregor

One fan took a savage yet hilarious shot not at Conor McGregor himself but the Irishman’s hapless fans, essentially calling anyone who still supports ‘The Notorious’ illiterate and dumb: “His fans would be really upset if they could read”. Another mostly agreed with Sonnen’s take but had one small gripe. They did think the sniping Dubliner could still compete with a ranked guy who isn’t that good: “This is facts he doesn’t enter the top 10 in either division. Top 15 if he can get a chinny fighter”.

Another fan felt that the only two fights worth McGregor and the fans’ time would be him taking on fellow washed up fighters, Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz, both 0f whom aren’t in the UFC anymore: “Masvidal or Nate at 170 only options”. One fan felt that the Floyd Mayweather cross-over super-fight in 2017 where the Irishman reportedly made $100 million was the exact moment McGregor’s downfall started: “I do not get where the confusion is, he wasted his prime boxing Mayweather, do not get me wrong happy for him but his best days are far behind him ”.

‘The Notorious’, of course, is known for going on pretty vitriolic and R-rated rants on X. And one fan felt Sonnen should be prepared for one of those coming his way: “Twitter rant McGregor incoming get ready @sonnench”.

Another fan pointed to the Irishman’s horrible recent form, which has seen him win only one fight in the past seven years. And that too against the always-ready-to-fight journeyman Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone: “Poor guy hasn’t won a fight since 2018 which was against a 40-year-old cowboy ”.

Another fan was surprised there even was a debate about McGregor’s return to the Octagon given his recent announcement about running for elected office: “The dude is running for the president of Ireland. He has no interest in fighting.” What do you think about Chael Sonnen lambasting Conor McGregor?
