“He Wasn’t Happy About His Last Daughter” – Alexander Volkanovski’s Family Becomes the Target of Ugly Trash Talk Before UFC 314

“I’ve got a tattoo that reads ‘FAMILY’. I got that pretty young before I even had kids. I just wanted something with personal significance. And I am a family man – that’s what I pride myself on. Even when I was young I was like, ‘I’m going to have four kids.’ Although after having two girls now I’m like, ‘Do I try for another?’ I don’t know, man, two’s hard enough…” Alexander Volkanovski revealed to The Fatherhood sometime back the significance of being a dad. And it seems that his dream of being a pop for a fourth time is about to be realized as his wife, Emma, and the former champ are expecting a daughter later this year. With Ariana, Airlie, and Reign already witnessing their dad’s greatness, it is safe to say that life is good for the Aussie ace.

The former champ is fully capable of turning his opponents into walking advertisements of Benadryl syrup. But that is the side his victims know! Apart from achieving greatness inside the Octagon, ‘The Great’ has also earned other riches in life. And with less than 48 hours out from his title challenge against Diego Lopes at UFC 314, Volkanovski’s family is firmly standing in his corner. But just days before the fight, he got hit with something deeply personal.

Former interim welterweight champion Colby Covington’s verbose nature has dragged Volkanovski’s family into the spotlight ahead of Saturday’s highly anticipated showdown. Moreover, this isn’t the first time Covington has taken shots at Volkanovski. The Clovis native previously criticized both Volkanovski and Brian Ortega over their time on The Ultimate Fighter Season 29. During an interview with James Lynch, ‘Chaos’ didn’t hold back as he said, “Those guys [Alexander Volkanovski and Brian Ortega] are going to make a complete mockery of the show. I mean, there’s just no entertainment factor there, you know. Those guys, yeah, they’re decent fighters for the little weights, the midgets, but they just don’t sell.”

However, things have gotten personal this time around! While dragging his family into their feud, the former interim champ accused the featherweight great of fighting purely for money and not legacy. He even claimed that Volkanovski isn’t happy with his daughters and is constantly trying to have a baby boy.

Taking to the Main Event podcast, he said, “I’m gonna have to go with the emo haircut-looking dude Lopes. I think he’s younger and hungrier and I think Volk is just coming for a paycheck. So, I think that emo kid beats him. I don’t think he’s there, I think he was really looking for that Makhachev fight cause he wanted to get paid, he jumped in another fight with Topuria right away, and he’s begging to fight ever since then, so I don’t know, I believe he’s just cash grabbing.”

‘Chaos’ added, “The inclination I get now, he’s just looking to fight for money, he has already built his legacy in his mind, now he just wants to get paid, he’s got a lot of mouths to feed, he got three daughters and you could tell he wasn’t happy about his last daughter, he was like, ‘Oh man I want a boy you know.”

Colby Covington has often drawn criticism for his unexpected and controversial rants, frequently aiming his verbal attacks at fighters outside his division. His decision to target Alexander Volkanovski ahead of a potentially legacy-defining moment is no different and the motivation behind it remains unclear. Some speculate it could be a response to praise Volkanovski received from Covington’s longtime rival, Jorge Masvidal. Regardless of the reason, Covington didn’t stop there. His sharp words extended beyond the main event, touching even the co-main event in typical ‘Chaos’ fashion.

Colby Covington rips into Paddy Pimblett and Michael Chandler before UFC 314

The hype around UFC 314 isn’t just about the main event, even the co-main is turning heads too. Michael Chandler and Paddy Pimblett are set to clash, and fans are fired up. As fight night gets closer, there’s a real sense of anticipation. People want to see if Chandler’s power can overwhelm Pimblett. Or if the Liverpudlian’s growth as a fighter will shine through. Still, not everyone’s on board. True to form, Colby Covington has dismissed both men, making it clear he’s not impressed.

While he admitted that the co-main event is interesting, he still doesn’t think highly of either Pimblett or Chandler. According to him, Pimblett is only famous because he’s from England, and Chandler’s UFC record of two wins and four losses doesn’t impress him in the slightest. Continuing his interview with Main Event, the former interim 170-pound champion said:

“Paddy is just hype! He just has a bowl cut and an English accent that’s why people like him. That’s why people identify with him because he got that stupid little accent. He lost to that m–h addict Jared Gordon. So, how good is he really? But, on the other side of the token we got Mike Chandler, he’s two and six, and he doesn’t have a winning record in the UFC. So, how good is he? He’s not ‘See you at the top’ he’s not even at the top.”
