Golf’s Masters Set to Aid Noble Cause for Late American Hockey Heroes Lost in Car Accident

The 2025 Augusta Masters tournament is nearly upon us, and the golf world is buzzing. The top golfers in the world will descend on the Augusta National Golf Club to contend for the prestigious title. Meanwhile, fans are eagerly waiting for the action to begin, with the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy among the stars in the fray. With just a couple of days left for the tournament to begin, this time, it’s not just going to be golf fans invested in the event, but hockey fans too. Why? Well, it’s because of Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau.

On Instagram, former golf professional Mike Dietrich announced that the Master’s Golf Pool was live, with entry forms available at $25 apiece. Fans can enter as many entries as they like, but in a heartwarming gesture, 10% of the total pot will be donated to the John and Matthew Gaudreau Foundation. As a result, any fans who join this event will be able to contribute to an important cause.

Taking to her Instagram handle, Madeline Gaudreau, wife of the late Matthew Gaudreau, reshared Dietrich’s post on her Instagram story. Only formally launched a few weeks ago, the John and Matthew Gaudreau Foundation was started in honor of the Gaudreau brothers, following the tragic accident that took their lives last August.

It was launched by their widows, Meredith Gaudreau and Madeline Gaudreau, who are also serving as co-presidents of the foundation. It’s a venture that aims to keep the memory of the brothers alive and “to continue giving back to what the boys are passionate about and to ultimately continue to make a positive impact on the world in their honor.”

It’s almost fitting that the Augusta Masters tournament will provide a platform to donate to the foundation. After all, Johnny Gaudreau was an avid golfer in his spare time and even took part in a charity golf tournament in 2018 for his alma mater. “Just looking forward to it every summer to get back out on the course with old friends and enjoy the day and do this for kids who can’t attend Gloucester Catholic,” he said at the time.

So, the foundation is off to a strong start, and there’s no doubt that the essence of who Johnny Gaudreau is will live on through the positive changes affected by the foundation. But recently, Meredith received, so to speak, another potent memory of her late husband.

Johnny Gaudreau’s wife announces the birth of their third child

It has been seven months since the tragic and heartbreaking incident that changed the life of the Gaudreau family forever. However, time is the best healing machine, it is often said. It hasn’t even been a year, but even during tough times, there’s always hope. And for Meredith Gaudreau, one of those sources of hope has come in the form of the recent birth of her third child.

Announcing the wonderful news via a post on her Instagram handle, she wrote in the caption, “I had our third baby! 4/1/25. Another baby boy. Carter Michael Gaudreau – same middle name as his daddy. 8lb 3 ounces, 20.5 inches – exact same as his daddy He looks exactly like his daddy too. I love you so much my baby! We are going to have so much fun. I can’t wait to give you the best life, my special boy forever. John, thank you for giving me our beautiful family. We love u, Daddy and miss you so much.”

It’s a bittersweet moment, knowing that Johnny Gaudreau isn’t there to meet his new son, but as Meredith’s Instagram posts show, there has been no shortage of love and support for the young family. In fact, Gaudreau’s teammate Erik Gudbranson has already popped in for a visit, and all the Blue Jackets players and families are only a stone’s throw away from the Gaudreau household.

So, within the past few weeks, the Gaudreaus have begun a foundation and welcomed two new additions to their family, including Madeline’s son, Tripp. With their commitment and loyalty to Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau, one thing’s for certain, and it’s that the brothers’ spirits will live on forever, never to be forgotten.
