Once hailed as the ‘Face of Boxing,’ WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis still has a loyal army of fans who stand by that title—but things have taken such a wild turn that even social media influencers are brushing off his chances against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul with just one dismissive word. But the question is—what is that word?
The Baltimore native is coming off a highly controversial majority decision draw against WBA super featherweight champion Lamont Roach Jr. in March earlier this year. However, the 30-year-old knockout artist wasn’t expecting that to happen. Instead, he was planning on announcing an exhibition bout against ‘The Problem Child’ after his win over Roach.
While the draw threw cold water over those plans, chatter suggests they could still have their fight later this year. And when it happens, Kick streamer Adin Ross feels the Cleveland native would make quick work of ‘Tank’ Davis. During his latest live stream with controversial streamer Neon, Ross wrapped up Tank’s chances against Jake Paul in one word—“underdog.”
“If Jake Paul and Gervonta Davis fight, Jake wins. Jake weighs 80 pounds more than him. Gervonta is 125 pounds. Jake’s 200,” Ross began by saying. “I bet you Gervonta is an underdog… because he’s 120 pounds.” Despite protests about Ross’ take by Neon and Charleston White, Ross continued, “It’s an exhibition fight. They’re not meeting weight. He’s gonna fight him, 70 pounds bigger than him.”

While details about the weight class for the potential exhibition fight remain unclear, it’s unlikely that Gervonta Davis would agree to terms allowing Jake Paul to be declared the official winner. More realistically, the bout would be structured with no judges and no official winner, as is common in many exhibition matches.
Regardless, before any showdown with Paul can materialize, Davis must first deliver a decisive win in his rematch against Lamont Roach Jr. Some reports suggest that the rematch is now scheduled for August 16, 2025, in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Davis’ promotion mate has shared his take on the first fight between Davis and Roach Jr.
David Benavidez sides with Lamont Roach Jr. ahead of Gervonta Davis rematch
Unified light heavyweight champion David Benavidez didn’t break a sweat while supporting Lamont Roach Jr.’s claim to a knockdown in the first fight. During the Pound 4 Pound with Kamaru and Henry podcast, ‘The Mexican Monster’ instantly criticized Davis’ performance in the first fight. “They should’ve counted it [as a knockdown],” Benavidez said.

“If they would have counted it, it would have went to Lamont Roach,” Benavidez added, referencing Tank’s bizarre ninth-round knee that wasn’t ruled a knockdown. Benavidez also had issues with Davis’ focus during the fight. “What I didn’t like about ‘Tank’ is the whole… he was gassing up Lamont Roach way too much… He was talking about retiring and stuff.”
He emphasized that Gervonta Davis wasn’t the same that night, at least not the one who is aggressive and fearless.
Having said that, it appears Gervonta Davis’ image has taken a major hit. Yet, Ross’ take on the potential Gervonta Davis-Jake Paul fight is understandable due to the severe weight difference. Do you agree with him? Or do you think the weight wouldn’t matter?
