Forced to Leave Iconic ABC Show, Michael Strahan Announces Hollywood Aspirations With a Strong Message

4 min read

Michael Strahan began the year 2025 on a roller coaster of emotions. The man had huge ups, like becoming the 109th honorary pace driver at the Indianapolis 500 spectacle. Now, that is an accolade! At the same time, he experienced tremendous lows, including losing his own legendary ABC show, Good Morning America. Ouch. Strahan proved to be the best host of the show, but nothing lasts forever. So it appears that the end of an era is imminent. But now that this show has ended for him, is Strahan searching for bigger projects?

Obviously. But what type of projects you ask? Well, after a recent episode of Good Morning America, this future project was teased. The former DE had an interview with Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, and it went perfectly. They discussed a variety of topics, including how Amazon MGM Studios would gain the creative control of the James Bond franchise. The legendary secret agent 007, known for his sharp intellect and thrilling espionage, has been a staple of suspenseful cinema for decades. Some of Hollywood’s finest—Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig—have all donned the iconic tuxedo. And who knows? Maybe Michael Strahan has his sights set on joining that elite list!

While discussing Bond with Jassy, Strahan posed the burning question: Who will be the next 007? Jassy admitted he didn’t have an answer at the moment—but then turned the question back on the NFL legend. Sensing the perfect opportunity, Strahan didn’t hesitate to shoot his shot. “You’re looking at him, but anyways, that’s a whole other thing,” he quipped. Jassy quickly picked up on the hint, playfully suggesting that Strahan had an ulterior motive for asking in the first place.

They even playfully entertained the idea of the former DE stepping into the role. The CEO went as far as to say if Strahan is both available and interested, then perhaps something could be worked out. However, the chances of Strahan breaking into Hollywood and landing the role of a character as legendary as James Bond are quite slim. Still, if there’s one thing we’ve learned about Strahan, it’s that he can juggle just about anything.

For now, though, his focus is elsewhere—particularly on his departure from Good Morning America. But why did he decide to leave the show?

A family man in and out: Michael Strahan on leaving GMA

The NFL world often follows a familiar script: a young athlete enters the league with big dreams, builds a legacy over 13-14 years, and eventually exits—sometimes on a bittersweet note. Michael Strahan’s journey seems to mirror that pattern, not just in football but also in his television career.

Following a controversial incident involving an Eagles flag, Strahan found himself at odds with some Giants fans. Amid the backlash, the former DE decided to step away from Good Morning America. However, his departure wasn’t just about the controversy—it was also a choice to spend more quality time with his kids.

Michael Strahan has plainly said that he intends to depart from his post as a commentator, too, but that time hasn’t arrived just yet. And, despite making $20 million each year for this show, the man chose family and morality above money. Now you know why he has always been successful. Michael Strahan has four children: three daughters and one son, and the former NFL player is excited to spend a lot of time with them.

The legend spoke about this too in an interview claiming, “Time is the one thing that once it’s gone, you can never get it back.” This was an unexpected decision by the legend, and it was a habit for everyone to see him on the GMA. It will be intriguing to see who will take over the show on FOX following Strahan. Moreover, can you envision Strahan as the 007? Tell us what you feel in the comment section below!
