Former five-division champion Floyd Mayweather appears determined to silence his critics. Despite swirling bankruptcy rumors, the 48-year-old continues to flaunt his wealth, firmly shutting down any talk of financial troubles. Earlier this year, ‘Money’ made an appearance on The Tonight Show, which starred Jimmy Fallon, where the speculation began.
During his appearance on the show, the undefeated boxer proudly claimed that he owns upwards of 100 buildings, and 99% of them are in New York. Seeing this, Mayweather’s former friend and now rival, 50 Cent, questioned the legitimacy of Mayweather’s claims. In early April, ‘Fiddy’ posted a clip on Instagram, taking shots at the boxer.
He shared a clip from Fighters Corner News titled, “Stephen A. Smith EXPOSES Floyd Mayweather For Going BANKRUPT After $402 Million SCAM.” Meanwhile, he also added, “Damn Champ they caught you CAPPIN. Hahahaha Time for another exhibition! LOL,” suggesting Mayweather was lying about his wealth and needed exhibition fights to recover financially.
The situation worsened for the former five-division champion when Business Insider published a report exposing the reality behind Mayweather’s alleged real estate dealings in New York. According to their investigation, New York City property records — typically updated within days of a sale — showed no ownership transfers for the buildings Mayweather claimed to have purchased.
Additionally, the NYC Housing Partnership, a key partner in many of these properties for tax breaks and affordability programs, stated it had not been notified of any sale, pending sale, or change in ownership — a standard requirement for such transactions. This revelation followed earlier claims by insider Rick Glaser about Mayweather’s shaky financial standing, further fueling doubts about his finances.
Despite the mounting speculation, Mayweather has doubled down on flaunting his wealth via Instagram, insisting the reports are irrelevant. In his latest display, he showcased a custom 145-carat diamond-encrusted watch valued at $1.8 million — a gift he purchased for his 48th birthday in February.
The timepiece, crafted by celebrity jewelers Avi Davidov and Ofir Ben Shimon of New York’s Pristine Jewelers, reportedly also commemorates the launch of Mayweather’s new supplement brand, Youare101. He revealed the watch, part of a larger collection worth $100 million, during the Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Miami Heat basketball game on Saturday night.
While the Cavaliers crushed Miami with a 37-point blowout win in Game 3, Mayweather delivered his own resounding statement against his critics on social media.
