Fighting Xavier Worthy Case, Ex-Fiancée Tia Jones Drops Strong Statement After Texas Relays

Texas Relays and Tia Jones? A pairing that seemed unlikely last year. After dominating the USA Indoor Championships, she shifted focus toward the US Olympic Trials, skipping Texas Relays to stay locked in on her mission. But this time, she wasn’t going to miss it. Not even with her personal life in turmoil. Because Tia Jones had something to prove. Not just to her rivals— but to herself.

On Saturday (March 29), under the blazing Texas sun, Jones flew through the women’s 100m hurdles, clocking a wind-aided 12.57 seconds. It wasn’t just a race— it was a statement. Rayniah Jones? Left behind. Kate Doherty? In the rearview. Tia Jones? On top. She crossed the line with grit in her eyes and something deeper in her heart. However, the biggest revelation came after the race.

Still catching her breath, Jones stepped up to the mic and raised the curtain on her personal struggles. “A lot of people don’t understand how hard it is to go through things that you go through outside of track and field and still step on the track and do what you gotta do. But you know, I just put all my faith into God. I’m walking.” Raw. Honest. Unapologetically real. And then came the kicker— a powerful declaration of her unwavering faith: “I do this for God. I am running under the testimony of Jesus himself. So coming out here and just putting everything on the track, I just put my energy into the track. So that’s all I can do. Otherwise, I’ll fail.”

The women’s 100m hurdles event at Texas Relays was Jones’ opening event this season. The 24-year-old made her comeback after June last year. In fact, after the preliminaries of the women’s 100m hurdles event in the US Olympic trials last year, Tia didn’t compete in any other event. However, in the meantime, the news of her engagement to Chiefs receiver Xavier Worthy came. But that story has experienced a lot of ups and downs this month.

Though the American athlete didn’t mention him by name, her words seemed to carry a sharp undercurrent. Her ex-fiancé, Xavier Worthy, and her ongoing legal battle with him linger in the shadows of her story.

Tia Jones and Xavier Worthy are in a legal battle

What once seemed like a messy breakup between Tia Jones and Xavier Worthy has now escalated into a full-blown legal battle, with both sides slinging serious accusations. The ordeal reportedly began earlier in March 2025, when Worthy was arrested for alleged domestic violence against Jones. Although he was not formally charged, the incident marked the first public sign of turmoil. Worthy has denied the allegations, claiming they were fabricated. Following this, Jones filed an application for a protective order.

Worthy responded with his own legal maneuvers. In addition to filing a civil lawsuit against Jones, accusing her of vandalism, assault, and damaging his property, he also applied for his own protective order.

According to records, the NFL wide receiver claimed that after discovering Jones’ alleged infidelity in late February, he repeatedly asked her to leave their shared home—even offering to cover the cost of an apartment. But rather than a calm departure, the lawsuit painted a picture of chaos.

Worthy alleged that Jones “became enraged,” destroying his game room in a fit of fury and harming him physically. The evidence reportedly includes photos of a shattered PlayStation 5, a demolished gaming desk, and images of Worthy’s scalp with clumps of dreadlocks torn out, allegedly at Jones’s hands. Nonetheless, the once-private breakup has now become a legal battle, with Worthy seeking damages for the destruction of property and personal injury. For Jones, who just days later claimed victory at the Texas Relays, the lawsuit casts a shadow over her triumph.
