“Her companionship was something I’d been looking for: it gave me a sense of peace,” Alex de Minaur once said about his relationship with Katie Boulter. They are the definition of couple goals! Just last month, they marked five years together—a journey that began not with a rally or a handshake at the net but with a chance meeting at a hotel. They bumped into each other at six in the morning, shared a coffee, and as De Minaur put it, he “was in it for the long haul.” Fast forward to today, and the Aussie has put a ring on it, proposing to Boulter in December last year. They are the definition of couple goals, both off the court and now, increasingly, on it.
They faced the American pairing of Ben Shelton and Emma Navarro in their opening match, eventually falling 10-7. While their campaign was cut short, the night belonged to Elena Rybakina and Taylor Fritz, who clinched the $200,000 prize. Taking the loss in stride, De Minaur joked afterward that he had just lost the “wedding budget.” Still, this taste of mixed doubles action has sparked bigger plans for the duo. With the US Open set to introduce a revamped mixed doubles event this year, De Minaur teased the possibility of teaming up with Boulter again. Given how often they are seen supporting each other at tournaments, their chemistry could make them a dangerous pair when the event kicks off in August.
That support has already been on full display during the ongoing Madrid Open. Boulter, despite an early exit after a tough 6-1, 6-2 loss to Jasmine Paolini in the second round, remained ever-present by De Minaur’s side. While the British No.1 had a forgettable outing, her fiancé has been finding his groove on clay. After a strong quarterfinal run at the Barcelona Open, where only Carlos Alcaraz could stop him, De Minaur is back in action in Madrid and looks eager to make a deeper push.
The Aussie kicked off his Madrid Open campaign with a statement win over Lorenzo Sonego, cruising to a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Particularly at the tail end of the first set, De Minaur pulled off a stunning backhand winner that even had Boulter applauding courtside.

And the Brit has taken this cheerleading to the interviews, too. During De Minaur’s interview with Tennis Channel, she decided to have a little fun. In a lighthearted moment, Boulter snuck up behind the camera operator and caught her fiancé off-guard, shouting, “You are too good!” at both De Minaur and the interviewer. The trio shared a laugh, bringing the segment to an end before Boulter swapped places with him.
Yet when it comes to fashion, the Brit isn’t handing out free passes.
Katie Boulter trolls Alex de Minaur’s outfit choice
Earlier this month at the Monte Carlo Masters, Alex De Minaur impressed with his form, making it to the quarterfinals before bowing out to Lorenzo Musetti. His standout moment came in the Round of 16 when he dismantled Daniil Medvedev, winning 6-2, 6-2. After the big win, De Minaur posted a photo on Instagram, captioned, “Step by step QF @rolexmontecarlomasters.”
While fans flooded the comments with praise, Katie Boulter chose a different route. Teasing her fiancé’s outfit rather than his on-court heroics, she cheekily wrote, “Not sure the short shorts are a win tho.”
As the clay season heats up, De Minaur has his eyes firmly set on the next challenge. He is set to face Canadian tennis player Denis Shapovalov in the third round of the Madrid Open. With Boulter cheering him on, De Minaur is building serious momentum this clay season. How far can he go with his biggest supporter by his side?
