The third base now feels like a dramatic position because something or the other keeps happening around this spot. Of course, this time, we are talking about the Yankees’ expected 3B Gleyber Torres. But because this once-promising shortstop-turned-second-baseman didn’t want to change position, he signed with the Detroit Tigers. And now, he is simply flourishing as a 2B with the Tigers.
Well, the Bronx Bombers, too, are off to a strong start this season, with a revamped roster that’s clicking in all the right ways. And yes, Torres is also proving his worth in his new home. Take his stats in the Tigers-Giants series. Torres made 3 runs from the 3 games at a .279 BA! That’s higher than his 2024 average (.257).
If you remember the May 24 game of the series against the Giants, you know the confidence shown by the man! He doubled to left field in the bottom of the 10th to turn the scoreboard from 7-3 to 7-5. The baserunning speed of Torres could really take your breath away. How to make a two-run double from a missed catch? Call Gleyber Torres!
And the last game of the series? Torres took away the tantalizing curveball from Landen Roupp. And well, that kinda changed the course of the game, no! With that, Torres’ gestures surely made the day for the Tigers’ fans.
And none of it was a simple fluke. Because Torres showed his excellence against the Orioles, too. Remember how confidently he crushed a double into the left field, allowing his team a 7-0 lead?
So, if body language is something to consider, then the Yankees fans are surely missing Torres this year. Especially when DJ LaMehieu is yet to offer reliability at the plate for the Bronx. For starters, LaMehieu is hitting at a .184 BA at 2B, calling for a breath of fresh air. Moreover, with injuries being a part of LaMehieu, who could have been a better choice than Torres?
So, expectedly, the Bleacher Creatures are surely missing Torres! And if you look into Gleyber Torres’ X account, you will see how much…

Torres shared a photo of himself after the Tigers’ win against the Giants. While the post is not something extraordinary, it shows the confidence Torres brings with him. And that post got flooded with reactions. They were not trolls but love for the Yanks’ former shortstop.
Well, this is kinda expected, given how Gleyber Torres left a lasting mark with the Yankees. Remember his back-to-back All-Star selections in his first two seasons? Well, in 2019, he launched 38 home runs, a rare feat for a middle infielder under the age of 23.
This year, the destination changed, but 5 HRs prove that Torres is just doing what he does best. Even when your top slugger, Juan Soto, struggles after leaving the Yankees, Torres’ performance is forcing fans to recall their memories and miss his presence.
Torres is still the Yankees’ blue-eyed boy
A fan-favorite then and now, Gleyber Torres is still making his bat do the work. The difference is that it is now coming against the Yankees.
Real ones miss you.

Torres is surely missed in New York. During his tenure, he was a two-time All-Star and delivered solid offensive numbers. In the 2024 season, Torres posted a .257 batting average with 15 home runs and 63 RBIs over 154 games. So, while Jazz Chisholm Jr. brings energy and potential to the Yankees’ lineup, Torres has a track record of consistent performance and is currently excelling with the Tigers.
“When are you putting the pen to the paper on an extension?” With this kind of performance, Torres can expect an extension. However, once the Tigers extend a deal, the first question will be raised to the Yankees. How come a team moves away from their postseason hero? Probably, the team found better value with Mookie Betts at the shortstop and Chisholm at the 2B. But replacing Torres seems like a big deal, now!
“Made some real nice plays in the field the last few days. making it look easy.” If you have checked Torres’ recent outings, you surely wish to get him back to the Yankees. Torres turned in a solid performance in the Tigers’ 3-1 victory against the Giants on May 27, going 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored, and two strikeouts. While not a standout stat line, Torres continued to show his ability to get on base and contribute to the offense. His plate discipline remains a bright spot.
Yes, Torres is no more with the Yankees, but why not wish him good luck in his new team? One fan commented, “NY misses you, Gleyber, happy you’re doing well in Detroit.” Remember his return to the Yankee Stadium this March? Despite the trade, Yankees fans greeted him with a warm ovation, acknowledging his contributions over the years. Torres expressed appreciation for the support, noting the emotional significance of the moment and the lasting bond he felt with the New York crowd.
Come back goat

With DJ LaMahieu probably in his last career phase, imagine Torres at 2B and Chisholm at the third! Dream setup, right? A few fans are hoping for that to happen and requesting him to return to the Bronx. Yes, on paper, it is still possible with the Tigers having a one-year deal with Torres. However, with the current performance, it is unlikely that the Tigers will repeat the mistake of the Yankees. Still, baseball is unpredictable!
In the current time, there are very few names that get applauded from fans across all teams. Torres is leading that list here. And we hope to see him in the postseason, too. Hopefully, the Tigers will be able to keep up with their current performance.
