The surprising act of the 2025 NFL Draft is the Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders. His draft stock started with the Titans QB Cam Ward, who was drafted first overall. But Sanders kept sliding before the Browns secured him in the 5th round (144th round). It was tough to watch as fans mocked him. Another QB, who received similar treatment, was the Texas Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers. Most analyst predicted him to be 2nd day pick. But the Dolphins drafted him in the 7th (last) round (231st), giving him the doorway into the league.
His desire to play in the league was so strong that he left millions. In January this year, he left an $8 million NIL deal to enter the draft. Back in 2021, he signed a NIL deal worth over $1 million with GTSM Sports Marketing. At the Dolphins, he will earn $800k during his rookie deal. However, there could be another factor.
Quinn Ewers has been playing in college for 4 years already and has to enter the league, the final destination for all budding football players in America. Moreover, the number at which one gets drafted has no effect on their NFL career. The attitude, determination, and tenacity matters. The prime example is the GOAT Tom Brady, who was selected in the 6th round (199th overall).

However, Longhorns QB also has to be ready. They already have Tua Tagovailoa, their main starter. HC Mike McDaniel also signed Zach Wilson who also wants to become an NFL starter. So, the competition is on for the rookie. And if the starter gets injured again (which is highly probable), he might get a chance earlier than he anticipates. So, he has to stay prepared.
While the fans understand these factors, they all said the same thing: that the athlete should have considered the NIL deal.
Fans question Quinn Ewers over leaving the NIL deal worth millions
The first question that everyone had was if the quarterback had thought everything. One fan was curious about his status and requested, “Yikes can he change his mind? ” However, this hasn’t happened by chance. The Longhorns QB knew that he wasn’t going in the first round. Almost all projections rated him a 2nd day pick. However, some fans were also concerned about the money.

Another fan was amazed at seeing the $800k amount for Dolphins QB and wrote, “I’m kind of in shock. Like, I thought nfl league minimum was 12 mil per annum. Oh it’s not? Not even close?” However, another fan was confused about the choice. He saw it as a double-edged sword that was necessary for Quinn Ewers. He wrote, “Always a gamble entering the draft with the new NIL rules. If he ends up becoming a starter though completely worth it.”
Most successful people say that no perfect opportunity exists, you have to seize the opportunity and make it perfect. That’s the mindset he has. Despite that, the fans aren’t convinced. One fan put the blame on his agent for not educating the player: “Bad advice from his agent probably.” The anger didn’t stop there. Another fan predicted a bad future for the rookie, “Fool, he will be out the league in 3 years.”
Everything depends on him now. He has all these naysayers to prove wrong. Will Ewers rise above adversity? We’ll have to wait and watch.
