Anthony Edwards is the heartbeat of the Minnesota Timberwolves — no question about it. A Wolves squad without Ant is simply not the same threat, especially in a series as intense as the Western Conference Finals. And in Game 1, things almost took a disastrous turn.
Late in the first quarter, Edwards attacked the paint with his usual aggression but collided with Alex Caruso before getting a shot off. As he landed, his ankle rolled awkwardly. The pain was immediate, and his grimace said it all. Moments later, the 23-year-old star limped off the court and headed straight to the locker room — leaving the entire Timberwolves fanbase holding its breath.
But soon enough, in the very next quarter, Ant-Man was back. His bounce-back ability left everyone stunned—especially the fans. Even the commentators couldn’t help but marvel, revealing what his own teammates say about him. Turns out, rolling his ankle and recovering faster than it takes to hard-boil an egg has earned him a fitting nickname in the T-Wolves locker room: “Bionic Ankle.”

But what makes this more impressive is that tonight marks the third series in a row where Edwards has briefly exited the game only to make a dramatic comeback. He did it tonight, marking his third time. Before that, he did it after rolling his ankle in Game 2 against the Golden State Warriors.
And this streak began after Edwards injured his ankle in Game 4 against the Lakers. Albeit in that game, he didn’t go back to the locker room. Merely sitting on the sidelines for a moment seemed enough for Ant to recover.
And it’s not just us, or the commentators who were astounded by Anthony Edwards. His recovery has fans online losing it over him, too. And we’ve compiled some of the best reactions to his injury and quick bounce back tonight. Here they are.
Fans online are in agreement about Anthony Edwards during Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals
A lot of fans weren’t at all surprised by the Wolves’ shooting guard returning to the court after appearing to reinjure his ankle. “We knew this,” wrote one fan, while another elaborated upon this sentiment. “He goes to the locker room every single game and nothing ever happens to him,” they wrote. And he has done this in 3 consecutive series now, so these fans’ reaction is understandable. Ant going off to the locker room may seem like a case of the boy who cried Timberwolf to a lot of fans. But not everyone was ready to believe this.
Many simply agreed with Anthony Edwards’ teammates – the T-Wolves shooting guard’s ankles were not made from the same stuff as ours. “Ankles of Steel ,” wrote an X user. Considering the way his ankle rolled in both the Dubs game and this one, we can’t say we disagree with this assessment. The T-Wolves’ shooting guard may indeed have ankles made of steel. After all, no one recovers this quickly from such injuries!

But there were a fair few who were jubilant that Ant had returned to the game. ”YESSIR ANTBABY LETS GET BACK IN THIS S–-T,” wrote an excited Ant-Man fan. Another was calmer in their celebration, writing, “THANK GOD.” And with an average of 26.5 points a game this postseason, we can understand why these T-Wolves fans are glad to have him back.
All in all, call it a lucky break or chalk it down to the young Olympic gold medalist having metallic ankles – one thing is apparent. The Western Conference Finals are much more exciting with Ant in them. So let’s hope he can recover as quickly if he suffers another injury like this again!
