“For me, seven turnovers just can’t happen.” Chicago Sky athlete Angel Reese was just as shocked on discovering the massive ball giveaways in last match against the Washington Mystics. But before the locker room could “clean that up” like a swish and a flick, Reese & Co. landed in another soup. This time against the Phoenix Mercury.
National reporters Andraya Carter, and Chiney Ogwumike joined Carolyn Peck in the studio as they discussed the fate of Chicago Sky amidst the early turnovers. “When we made game predictions, what did I say?,” Carter asserted. “I thought that the Mercury’s going to win the turnovers and that’s exactly what we’re seeing right now.” And needless to say, Phoenix did win the turnovers as they made 29 points from Sky’s ball turns. Moreover, the roster was careful and committed just 19 turnovers.
“Chicago turns the ball more than anyone. They have 12 turnovers already that’s good for 16 Phoenix points,” Carter observed. “And right now they have a 15 point lead. They got to cut down on the turnovers if they’re going to get back into this thing.” Unfortunately, Chicago Sky landed with 12 turnovers in the first half! Despite Carter’s plea of keeping a check, the Sky went overboard and finished with a whopping 21 turnovers in their belt.
However, the Sky managed to capitalize on all 19 of Mercury’s ball turns this time and conceded 22 points. Now, the Chicago Sky head coach, Tyler Marsh addressed the looming concerns surrounding the turnovers in the recent post-game interview. He has always marked the issue as the roster’s roadblock to victory.
“Obviously, we want to cut down the turnovers,” Marsh said. “I think when you look at the positives and being able to put 86 on the board with the amount of turnovers that we’ve had, there’s still light at the end of this tunnel from that standpoint.” But when compared to the locker room’s tryst with ball turns this season, Marsh was surprisingly positive with today’s outcome.
While Marsh echoed Angel Reese’s concerns surrounding the turnovers, was the team crumbling under the Mercury’s pressure today? Well, the head coach did not shy away and confessed that the Sky started the game on the wrong footing today. He opened up about how the pressure can lead to inconsistencies on the hardwood.
“We didn’t do it consistently enough tonight,” Marsh began. “Another 20+ turnover game. It’s tough to win when you add that with giving up two 30-point quarters to a team as good as Phoenix. It makes it tough.” Instead of sugar-coating his answers, Marsh directly confronted the threat and dominance asserted by the Mercury. The team scored 31 points in the first quarter and sent the Sky spiralling into a frenzy.
Angel Reese delivers a shocking performance against the Phoenix Mercury
While we are all aware of Angel Reese’s remarkable on-court achievements during her sophomore season under the Chicago Sky, her tonight’s performance against the Phoenix Mercury has already been written in history books. Known for her exceptional rebounding prowess across the WNBA, our Chi-Town Barbie failed to live upto expectations as the roster spiralled to a 107-86 loss.

Well, I Talk Hoops media account also confirmed the stark reality today. They took to X and gave a grave account of Reese’s gameplay against the Phoenix Mercury. “Angel Reese’s 39-game streak of recording at least 9 rebounds was snapped tonight, as she finished with just 2,” the official account announced.
Angel Reese failed to secure even 5 rebounds today. “It marked the first time in her young career that she recorded fewer than 5 rebounds. It was also the first time in her career that she attempted fewer than five shots,” the media reported. “She’s averaging 9.3 shot attempts per game this season, down three from last year.”
As the Chicago Sky tries to clean up the turnover, and now the rebounding chaos, chances for them participating in the playoffs look bleak. And while the season still has a long way to go, can HC Tyler Marsh and the locker room find their momentum and give a befitting reply to everyone who wronged them so far? Or will they keep spiralling into the bottomless pit of losses? What do you think?
