Edmonton Oilers Star Decodes Loss to Colorado Avalanche: “Didn’t Love Our Game”

3 min read

Difficulties continue to badger the Edmonton Oilers. Tied up with wins and losses this season, the team has been moving forward, competing with its best talents on the roster. Their recent matchup against the Colorado Avalanche at Rogers Place on Friday, February 7, was one such example. With both teams carrying some of the best talents worth noticing, the Oilers felt short to secure the win last night by losing 4-5.

As part of the biggest matchups, Oilers’ dominating performances by Leon Draisaitl and Corey Perry truly took the stage, but it wasn’t enough. For Leon, Friday’s match was not much appealing, and the player shared on the degrading performances given out by the team for the last few games played despite some wins. The post-game interview saw him also appreciating the much-needed break before kicking off the 4 Nations Face-Off.

“Yeah, I don’t; I didn’t love our game the last couple nights. Um, so maybe it’s a little bit of fatigue kicking in, or mentally we weren’t as sharp… So we needed to be but um, I think the break comes at the right time for once and obviously, um, get back to playing, you know, collective good hockey when we come back.”

Leon wasn’t very satisfied with the team’s performances, but his individual performance comes with a special mention from his teammate. Corey Perry’s words described Leon as the world’s best NHL player, in respect to his achievements and his two scores on Friday’s match.

“You know… he’s got a knack, and, um, you know, he continues to find ways and he’s one of the best in the world for a reason and he shows it each and every night.” Both the Edmonton Oilers’ forwards, Leon and Corey, secured two scores each on Friday’s match, but the end result didn’t end in their favor. Despite the loss, the team does have one such player that has been making his prominence out in the world. And as we all know, it’s Leon Draisaitl.

Edmonton Oilers’ Leon Draisaitl is NHL’s new scoring leader

Draisaitl is no doubt one of the best talents in the Edmonton Oilers team beside their No. 2 Connor McDavid, with a score of 38 goals and 81 points in 54 games. The forward now joins Avalanche’s Nathan MacKinnon to become the top two players in the NHL to exceed 80 points this year. With this, he also became the first player to make a record of six 40-goals, including in this season, joining formers Alex Ovechkin, Steven Stamkos, and Auston Matthews.

The achievements are making Leon close to claiming his first Maurice Rocket Richard Trophy. The 2019-20 season saw him give out a score of 110 points in over 71 games played. The feat gave him the opportunity to acclaim three titles, including the Hart Mermorial, Art Ross Trophy, and Ted Lindsay Award.

Continuing to chase his career achievements, the forward is also joined by Oilers captain Connor McDavid to give a dominant performance for the team. The two are currently ranked second as teammates, giving combined goals of 60 this season and 152 in total. So, overcoming Friday’s loss, we will see the Edmonton Oilers back in action for their five-game road trip to Philadelphia. The second-ranked pairup, however, will be the highlight of the game.
