Eagles Lessen Their $17M Burden With Big Announcement on Bryce Huff on Friday

Bryce Huff, who signed a three-year, $51 million contract last offseason and was once projected as Haason Reddick’s replacement, had a terrible and injury-plagued 2024. He was inactive for the Super Bowl, missed seven games, and only recorded 2.5 sacks. And became a footnote a year after being Philadelphia’s blockbuster signing.

He now skips OTAs and doesn’t seem to be part of the Eagles’ 2025 plans at all. After Brandon Graham retired and Josh Sweat left, there was still anticipation that Huff would remain and take on a bigger role, even after Philly signed Josh Uche and Azeez Ojulari in free agency. However, his persistent absence, as verified by several reports, suggests a shared desire to move on.

And reportedly, he is actually moving on. Philadelphia’s Bryce Huff experiment may already be coming to an end. The Eagles and 49ers are attempting to complete a trade that would send the 25-year-old edge rusher to San Francisco for a mid-round pick, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. However, due to NFL cap regulations, the deal cannot be finalized until after June 1.

Huff would rejoin his former Jets head coach, defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, in San Francisco. He’s already reworked his contract to help facilitate the trade. The Eagles renegotiated the contract such that he would only take on $9.05 million this season, instead of the $17 million that was initially fully guaranteed. This indicates that both parties are prepared to move on, since the 49ers will pay the remaining $7.95 million.
