Dragged Into Jake Paul’s Desperate Antics for Canelo Alvarez, David Benavidez Pays a Hefty Price

4 min read

Who are the two people who despise Canelo Alvarez the most right now? If your answer was Jake Paul and David Benavidez, you’re spot on. But here’s where it gets even more intriguing—these two just teamed up for a podcast. And let’s just say, fans online had an absolute field day reacting to the surprise collaboration.

Canelo, of course, is slated to square off against former undisputed welterweight champion Terence Crawford in September later this year in Las Vegas. This came after the Mexican superstar dropped the Jake Paul fight at the last minute to sign a four-fight contract with the Saudis. As a result, Paul and Canelo have been exchanging verbal blows on social media.

Canelo Alvarez: The common enemy

David Benavidez, on the other hand, has been waiting for a bout against Canelo for several years—he was Canelo’s mandatory for over a year, but a fight never materialized. Canelo famously even demanded $150-$200 million to fight Benavidez. So, both Paul and Benavidez obviously have a lot to talk about.

The announcement of Benavidez’s appearance on Jake Paul’s podcast came through an Instagram post. While sharing a picture from Jake Paul’s Super Bowl party in Miami, Benavidez added, “Shout out to the bro @jakepaul for having us on the podcast today. It was a dope conversation. Stay tuned for the episode.”

With both Canelo and Paul sharing a common enemy, it didn’t take fans long to start trolling the pair for talking about Canelo in their podcast, which hasn’t even come out yet.

David Benavidez and Jake Paul branded crybabies

Despite calling himself a boxer, Jake Paul hasn’t had many actual boxers on his podcast. So when Canelo Alvarez pulled a fast one on him, Paul’s decision to invite Canelo’s biggest rival raised some eyebrows. One fan even predicted the episode would just be the two of them complaining about not getting a fight with Canelo. “Ah s**t both you linked up to cry about Canelo ,” the user commented. However, the key difference between them is that Benavidez has genuinely earned a shot at Canelo. The same can’t be said for Paul.

Even the next user seemed to have the same opinion about their podcast episode. “We all know that Canelo was the main character ,” the user wrote. Well, Paul missed out on a potentially big payday, and Canelo took away the opportunity from Benavidez to prove he is the best. So, it’s natural for them to be unhappy with Canelo.

Meanwhile, this user advised Benavidez that it’s a bad look to be linked to ‘The Problem Child.’ “This ain’t a good look bro ,” the user commented. Paul has built himself a pretty bad reputation for fighting old and out-of-prime opponents, which has garnered him hate from the boxing community.

The next user came up with a brilliant plan for Benavidez and Paul. “Why you 2 don’t fight I meant you [two] are perfect for each other ,” wrote the user. While Benavidez might be open to the fight, Paul might not see it as a lucrative enough deal.

Someone else rubbed salt on their open wound. “You both are so thirsty, Canelo isn’t fighting anyone of you,” the user mocked. But realistically, both fights are possible, it’s just a matter of time because, at the end of the day, even Canelo is motivated by money.

That said, Jake Paul and David Benavidez teaming up for a podcast didn’t exactly sit well with fans. But let’s be real—the episode will still rack up views. Even if people know exactly what to expect, curiosity always wins. What do you think? Will Paul and Benavidez spend the whole episode taking shots at Canelo?
