It seems like something exciting is going to happen to the Dodgers! Just two days before the Tokyo Series starts at the Tokyo Dome, the Dodgers’ manager surprised everyone with an announcement. It’s about their 24-year-old outfielder, who signed with the Dodgers in 2018 for the minor league.
With Andy Pages signing a one-year, $800,000 contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, skipper Dave Roberts has hinted that Pages might become the Dodgers’ starting center fielder.
While we can’t ignore his minor-league stats, an average of .356, 421 OBP, and 1.084 OPS, he had a good 2024 MLB season, too. Pages had a 403 AB, a .248 average, .305 OBP, and .712 OPS, combined with 46 RBIs and 13 home runs. Quite impressive, isn’t it?
A clear indication suggests his presence in the lineup when playing against the Chicago Cubs. On March 16, when Dodgers insider Doug McKain asked Dave Roberts about Andy Pages’ chances to be on the Opening Day roster, he said, “There’s a chance he’ll be in the lineup.” Now, that’s big news!
Although the Dodgers’ roster spots have been set already, a few questions surround the second base position, the bullpen, and center field. So, why is Roberts showing faith in him?

Well, Andy Pages has shown promise in the rookie season; most importantly, against the left-handers, he has created magic. Not only does he play great in a corner, but he can also hit it big against fastballs with an exit velocity of above 100 mph. Pages can also complement Michael Conforto on the left and Teoscar Hernandez on the right perfectly.
However, in case the Dodgers’ new signing, Tommy Edman, plays the second base, Pages might be on the centre field most of the time. Still, the young outfielder making his way into the Opening Day roster will surprise many if Dave Roberts finally makes such a call.
Meanwhile, Dave Roberts’s return to Japan exposes some of his regrets. What’s that?

Emotions are galore for the Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series-winning manager, Dave Roberts. The reason? Well, Roberts never really accepted his Japanese roots after transferring to the United States in his childhood with his parents. The MLB veteran’s last visit to Japan was in December, when he was honored by the municipality’s governing body for his contribution.
Now, with the Tokyo Series on bay and him returning to Japan, Roberts felt a deep connection to his roots, recalling moments and saying, “I haven’t given my Japanese side it’s due.”
And it’s true, given that despite having an 851-506 record and winning the World Series title for the Dodgers, he hasn’t done anything significant for his Japanese side. However, with the inclusion of MLB superstars like Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and now Roki Sasaki, he is a bit nostalgic.
But that’s a good thing, too, right? Maybe!
With the fans lining up, all excited to see their home-grown players making it big in MLB, Dave Roberts would like to create a memorable experience for the Japanese people all around.
