As much as boxing is the sport of skill and talent, it also thrives on trash talk. However, there are some lines that even the biggest loudmouth dare not cross—the family. Gervonta Davis doesn’t seem to have received that memo. Last month, the Baltimore native attacked the family of Terence Crawford on social media. And now, Davis’ former promoter, Floyd Mayweather, has shared his thoughts on it.
You see, last month, the Baltimore native was excluded from the list of guests at the Ring Magazine gala. It’s worth noting that Saudi Boxing Chief Turki Alalshikh had bought the organization, and ‘Tank’ Davis doesn’t exactly have the best relationship with Alalshikh. Nevertheless, Davis felt insulted by the gesture as he saw numerous boxing personalities attend the event.
This prompted the undefeated boxer to take his frustration to social media, as he started throwing daggers at the people who decided to attend the event. Former undisputed welterweight champion Terence Crawford, however, wasn’t one to sit quietly. He quickly fired a tweet of his own, which seems to have sent Davis over the edge.
“I see somebody mad they wasn’t invited to the Ring Magazine gala,” Crawford wrote on X. Almost immediately, the pair started going back and forth on X, with both sides claiming they had more money than the other. However, Davis decided to rope Crawford’s family into the mix. “And he got like 8 kids and his wife like 380 lbs..yea buddy gotta work overtime,” he wrote.

While appearing in an interview with Brian Mazique recently, Floyd Mayweather was pressed about his former pupil Gervonta Davis’ comment on Crawford’s wife. “I think Terence Crawford right now is the pound-for-pound best fighter in the sport of boxing,” Mayweather began. “It’s good to see him in this position that he’s in.”
“I think he has a beautiful family, I think he has a beautiful wife, a beautiful queen, a black queen. And there’s nothing better than a black woman in this world that’s just my opinion. We are all entitled to our opinion. I think we need to start sticking together and pushing each other to be great instead of arguing on social media. And push each other in a positive way.”
Meanwhile, Crawford has also shared predictions for the potential Gervonta Davis vs. Keyshawn Davis fight.

It was never like Crawford and Davis were buddies. A handful of years ago, there were conversations about a fight between them, as Davis was expected to move up in weight for the fight. However, Davis never moved up and the fight never happened. Interestingly enough, Davis also backed Errol Spence Jr. to win against Crawford when they fought.
This was also a point of contention between the two, so one could argue that Crawford is getting back at Davis with his prediction for the potential Keyshawn Davis vs. Gervonta Davis fight. “You have two talented fighters. Both of them are counter-punchers. Both of them are smart,” Crawford told Sean Zittel after ‘The Businessman’ knocked out Denys Berinchyk.
“Tank might have a little more power, but Keyshawn has power, too. It would be a great fight, and I think Keyshawn would win,” he added.
That said, there’s no denying that Gervonta Davis crossed a line with his comments about Terence Crawford’s wife. Even Floyd Mayweather backed Crawford, although he didn’t publicly shame Davis for his actions. What do you think about the situation?
