Did 50 Cent Wear a “Free Diddy” Shirt at Knicks vs Pacers Game 4? Here’s the Truth

6 min read

“Oh my goodness itty bitty Diddy wants me D—, I have to lay low, I think I’m gonna hide out at the playoff game tonight. LOL,” wrote renowned rapper 50 Cent in a recent Instagram post. The 49-year-old has been making headlines over the last few days due to his involvement in the ongoing trial of Sean John Combs, better known as Diddy. Till a few days ago, 50 Cent was doing nothing but some trolling on social media, and working to produce a Netflix documentary on Combs, along with continuing to paint him as a liar and a fraud. However, after he was name-dropped in a recent testimony, 50 Cent went to an NBA game to ‘lay low’. But did recent events do something to make the 49-year-old change his opinion about Diddy? Some people on social media are certainly highlighting this belief.

During the recent matchup between the Indiana Pacers and the New York Knicks, several X pages like ‘NBA Centel’, ‘Legion Hoops’, and ‘Hater Report’ published a screenshot of what was highlighted as a screenshot of 50 Cent’s recent Instagram post. It featured the rapper on the court at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, with Tyrese Haliburton and hundreds of fans wearing yellow, and visible in the background. The rapper was in all-black, except his shoes and the iconic ‘50’ necklace hanging from his neck. However, all of that would have been ignored. The main attention of viewers would have been diverted to the T-shirt, since it had ‘FREE DIDDY’ written on it! Yikes!

So just one testimony, and 50 Cent now supports Diddy after months of trolling? Well, fortunately, that is not the case. The first clue that the news was fake would have been the fact that it was put out by ‘NBA Centel’! Over its 2 years of operation, the account has become notorious for purposely putting out inaccurate news about current events. All for the fun of trolling certain players, teams, or the NBA as a whole. The account was initially launched as a spoof of ‘NBA Central’, but soon grew to boast around 624.8k followers.

From claims that Joel Embiid announced his retirement after a string of poor performances and injuries, to implying that the WNBA lost “nearly 95% of their Instagram followers after Caitlin Clark was ruled out for two weeks”, one can quite easily fall for the traps laid by NBA Centel. And the post about 50 Cent was just that—a trap. Something to make people believe that the rapper had turned allegiances, when it hadn’t.

If that isn’t proof enough, one has to simply check out the X posts by ‘Complex Sports’ and ‘Who Likes Sports’. Both accounts debunked the claim by highlighting what 50 Cent was wearing. The rapper was wearing everything accurately as shown by ‘NBA Centel’, except for the fact that his black T-Shirt had ‘Balmain’ written on it, and not ‘FREE DIDDY’. People attending the game also shared videos, proving that what ‘NBA Centel’ and others were reporting was false.

At the same time, however, one can also blame 50 Cent for his role in spreading this false narrative. After all, the rapper did post an image of himself showing him wearing a ‘Free Diddy’ T-Shirt on Instagram! He even wrote a caption alongside it that read “Bro this game is crazy @bransoncognac”. However, judging from the comments on that post, it was clear to everyone that the rapper was simply trolling. 2-3 hours after that post, 50 Cent put out another one, which showed the correct T-shirt he was wearing.

This is not the first time 50 Cent has trolled Diddy with the ‘Free Diddy’ fake AI image, and it probably won’t be the last. However, the rapper should have maybe avoided doing it at an NBA game. After all, he had already gotten the Knicks involved earlier in one of his previous feuds.

Both Ja Rule and 50 Cent once blamed each other over a Knicks loss: “who let this fool touch the trophy”

There are a few rap feuds that people remember quite well, even after a long time. Drake vs Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B vs Nicki Minaj, etc. Amongst them is also the feud between 50 Cent and Ja Rule. Originating from New York, the duo first started taking shots at each other in the early 2000s. Their feud showed no sign of stopping. It had a violent origin, but over the years, has given many memorable moments for fans to remember. While they both hated each other, they loved basketball, which gave the perfect opportunity for one to pin the blame on the other if things went sideways.

Back in May 2024, the Knicks made the Conference Semi-Finals for the 2nd year in a row. Unfortunately, just like the previous year, they couldn’t go past that stage. The Knicks were eliminated by the Indiana Pacers in a 3-4 series. The In Da Club rapper used this loss as a way to attack his rival. He took to X and highlighted a picture of Ja Rule kissing the Larry O’Brien trophy. 50 Cent also added a caption in the tweet that said, “If you’re wondering why the Knicks couldn’t get the W, here you have it. SMH who let this fool touch the trophy”.

That wasn’t the end of it, as Ja Rule got back at 50 Cent later. Back in late April of this year, 50 Cent attended a game between the New York Knicks and the Detroit Pistons. He was even featured on the MSG’s “GardenVision” videoboard. After Jalen Brunson and Co. lost that game by a 100-94 score, it was Ja Rule’s turn to take to X. The ‘Between Me & You’ artist wrote, “Man I knew my Knicks was gonna lose as soon as I seen that b—- cat (rat) in the building…. ”.

Therefore, it is not as if the Knicks or other teams have been able to keep away from 50 Cent’s feuds. Whether he chooses to continue doing so for as long as Diddy’s trial continues is something that remains to be seen.
