Former undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney has found himself in the eye of the storm since his fight against Jose Ramirez in Times Square last week. However, things seem to have gotten way worse for the 26-year-old, as boycotting all fights against Haney has been brought into the picture.
‘The Dream’ showcased a highly evasive approach to fighting Ramirez, as he constantly avoided action, and Ramirez chased him around the ring for 12 rounds. Ultimately, Haney managed to secure a unanimous decision win. But now, he will have to face the consequences head-on, as Ramirez’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, retaliates.
During an interview with Boxing Scene, the Golden Boy Promotions head was asked whether he would want to send one of his fighters, Arnold Barboza Jr. or Oscar Duarte, to fight Haney before making the Garcia-Haney rematch. In response, Oscar revealed his organisation will boycott Devin Haney completely.

“I’ll never, ever put Devin in with one of our guys,” Oscar said on Thursday. When asked whether Oscar took this decision because of the Ramirez fight, his long-standing beef with Bill Haney, or because Haney sued Garcia after the latter tested positive for Ostarine, Oscar simply suggested, “All of the above. I won’t waste my time with Devin because he runs and will continue running.”
Ryan Garcia faced an upset defeat at the hands of Rolando Romero on the same card in Times Square, effectively raising concerns about the highly publicized rematch with Haney. Regardless, upon hearing about Oscar’s decision to boycott Haney, the latter’s father, Bill Haney, was quick to respond, and worry wasn’t part of it.
He suggested that Oscar’s fighters, including former lightweight champion Jorge Linares, “are 0-3 against us when you consider Ryan Garcia didn’t beat us clean.” He further added that Oscar doesn’t have any fighters left for his son to defeat, and if there were, his son would “whip” them. However, this wasn’t the end of Bill Haney’s response.

Bill Haney didn’t hold back after Devin Haney’s victory over Jose Ramirez, firing shots at Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions. In a bold statement after Oscar’s boycott claims, Bill stated, “You can tell Oscar that he needs to humble himself, and when he gets his p***ies out of his a**, he will realize that [this] is the Devin Haney era.”
He criticized De La Hoya’s team, including Bernard Hopkins and Ramirez’s trainer Robert Garcia, for failing to craft a winning strategy against Devin. “We gave Ramirez 36 minutes with the whip with a guy that came up from a smaller division… and they didn’t cut the ring off or come up with the gameplan to beat us.”
Haney also took a jab at Ryan Garcia, calling him “Lyin’ Ryan” and dismissing his status after the Ostarine fiasco. Confident and unapologetic, Bill Haney declared the win another step toward the “Mount Rushmore of boxing.”
That said, the much-anticipated rematch between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney might be out of the window permanently. However, the question is, after his last performance, who would be willing to step in the ring with ‘The Dream’?
