Look, college football never hits pause. Now, Ohio State just bagged that natty, but the recruiting game is already raging like a tailgate grill in Tuscaloosa. And guess who’s making waves? Colorado’s Deion Sanders. Word is, he’s got his sights set on one of Michigan’s crown jewels -a four-star cornerback who checks every box—as the perfect heir to Travis Hunter‘s throne. But Sherrone Moore isn’t ready to take a loss as this battle’s shaping up to be a full-blown tug-of-war. So, what’s the tea?
Who’s Michigan’s prized weapon? Brody Jennings, a standout from Jacksonville’s Mandarin High, is low-key committed to Michigan’s class of 2026 in July 2023. Standing at 6’1″ and weighing 175 pounds, he is the 16th-ranked cornerback and 19th-ranked overall prospect from Florida according to On3. But now Deion Sanders and Co. are also in the mix to get his commitment. As Chad Simmons hit X with the news, saying, “Prime and co. offer 4-star CB who’s committed to Michigan. Jennings is out of Mandarin HS in Fla.”
Jennings seems to be committed to Michigan, but he’s exploring other options like a top-tier free agent—scheduling visits with Auburn, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. The situation has taken an interesting turn with Colorado entering the mix, making things more complicated for Michigan. Hours before Simmons’ X update, Jennings himself posted: “Extremely blessed to receive an offer from the University of Colorado!” Well, the kid is happy, and why won’t he be? Colorado has a reputation for producing exceptional cornerbacks like Deon Figures, Chidobe Awuzie, and, not to mention, Heisman-winner Travis Hunter. That’s a compelling recruiting pitch right there, and if the odds are in Coach Prime’s favor, then it’s bad news for Coach Moore.

But on the other hand, Michigan can’t afford to let Jennings slip away. Following the loss of four-star QB Brady Hart to Texas A&M, Jennings’ commitment has become even more critical. He’s not just a top-256 player; he’s a key piece for the future secondary under DC Wink Martindale at Michigan. Moore’s task is clear: prevent Jennings from being swayed and keep him focused on Ann Arbor.
But here’s the kicker: Deion Sanders might not be the only threat to Michigan. The Gators significantly threaten Michigan’s recruitment of talented defensive backs. Interestingly, Brody made an unofficial visit to FSU on March 19 as well. The cornerback keeps FSU in his top 2, as he says, “Florida is one of the schools that is right there with Michigan,” per On3. “I like how Florida produces top defensive backs. They are close to home too.” But ties him so close to FSU?
FSU’s deep connection with Brody Jennings
Well, Brody Jennings might lean towards Michigan for now, but Florida State is not ready to give up just yet. His father, Bradley Jennings, played for the Seminoles, and Brody has been a part of Tallahassee all his life. Despite missing out on his older brothers, Bradley Jr. and Branden, FSU is determined to ensure they don’t miss out on Brody. However, they are facing competition. Florida, located just over an hour away from Jennings’ hometown in Jacksonville, has a strong advantage.
With a reputation for producing NFL-caliber defensive backs, the Gators are presenting a compelling case. Having already convinced two of Jennings’ former high school teammates to switch commitments, Florida is now targeting him for the 2026 class. Brody recently visited Gainesville and has an official visit scheduled for June 6, during which Florida’s coaching staff will emphasize their track record in developing defensive backs and sending players to the NFL.
But it’s not like Brody Jennings is totally behind FSU; talking about his relations with Michigan, he says, “Michigan is still the school I have the strongest relationship with,” Jennings said. “But Florida and Georgia are battling hard. I’m keeping my options open and looking for the best fit for my future.” Look, whatever might be the case for now, things are pretty uncertain for Coach Moore.
With recruiting competition intensifying, keeping Jennings in Florida represents a potential major win for Coach Napier and his staff. Now with Buffaloes’ Deion Sanders making his move and coming into the mix, Michigan might have to try hard to protect their top CB prospect!
