After a devastating season in 2023, the Colorado Buffaloes finished 4-8 in Deion Sanders’ first year. Now, it seems, he has found his rhythm in the program. Finishing at 9-4 after several seasons of disappointment under different head coaches, Colorado has produced a Heisman winner in Travis Hunter, an exceptional top draft pick, Shedeur Sanders, and a team that looks to build on the momentum.
Among all these players making their name, there is another name too, quite close to Deion Sanders’ heart. And that is Shilo Sanders, Deion Sanders’ son, who also had quite an eventful season as he finished with 67 tackles while playing as a safety. He has decided to move to the NFL draft and make his name in that arena. And Coach Prime seems to be supporting him in that endeavor with high expectations.
Coach Prime has posted pictures with his son Shilo on Instagram and captioned them, “Shilosanders I’m so PROUD of the work you’re putting in son. I can’t wait to witness our PRO-DAY here.” In the four pictures Deion Sanders shared, he can be seen warmly embracing his son in a moment that is undoubtedly heartwarming to see. Notably, Shilo Sanders didn’t get an NFL Combine invite, unlike his brother Shedeur Sanders, who chose to skip the event despite having an invite. What’s next for Shilo? He is expected to participate in the Pro Day on his home turf.
Deion Sanders earlier also praised his son Shilo for the work he was putting in building up to the Pro Day. “Shilo is working his b–t off, and I can’t wait to see him run the 40 and do his drills because he’s been working with Swasey (strengths coach) and all that. I can’t wait to see how sharp he is.” Apart from Shilo, other players like Jimmy Horn Jr., LaJohntay Wester, Travis Hunter, and the highly anticipated Shedeur Sanders will also participate in the upcoming Pro Day.
Shilo Sanders’ Combine snub became a topic of discussion. The top players can get away with not having the invite. However, in Shilo’s case, there are doubts. For that reason, he is widely reported to be a later-round pick. After the snub, Shilo Sanders responded with a message. “I didn’t get invited to the combine, but I brought the combine to me.” Well, that is actually true. As per reports, the player contacted Zybek Sports, a local organization that has been timing the Combine for almost 13 years. Their owner, Mike Weinstein, then arrived on Colorado’s campus and worked with Shilo, which mimicked the NFL Combine.
Update of Shilo Sanders’ Bankruptcy case
Shilo Sanders’ collegiate career has now ended, but it seems his previous controversies aren’t dying down any time soon. For those less versed, Shilo had a run-in with the law when he was 15, which still has its repercussions. When Shilo was in ninth grade at FOCUS Academies, Dallas, preparing for his college career. It was alleged that the player had injured John Darjean, who was a security guard at the time. Darjean filed a lawsuit against Shilo, and a civil judge even ruled $11.89 million in compensation to Darjean. But that wasn’t it.
Shilo filed for bankruptcy and has since escaped from paying the amount ruled by the civil judge. However, the move didn’t come without its complications as Darjean’s attorney demanded 2023’s financial statements of Shilo. That would also include even the smallest of expenses, like ordering a hamburger. Shilo’s lawyer, Keri Riley, opposed the move, and now it seems Shilo has some good news on his hands.
Brent Schrotenboer of USA Today reported. “The judge ended up finding ‘good cause’ to give Sanders certain privacy protections. Among other things, Romero’s five-page protective order Wednesday says ‘designated discovery material may not be used for any other purpose’ other than that is related to the case…The judge’s order appears to forbid social media dissemination of designated discovery evidence unless it gets into the public court record”.
Judge Michael E. Romero has now ordered Shilo’s financials to be kept private unless an order states so. This means that the NIL deals and even brand promotion deals will be kept private for the player unless disclosure is ordered. However, the order only looks to be the calmness before the storm. The non-disclosure order could be a major step in the case, which is now looking to be headed to trial, with settlement out of the equation.
