Deion Sanders ain’t your typical college football coach. The man’s always thinking outside the box, cooking up plans like he’s the mad scientist of the gridiron. And now, he’s aiming to flip the whole spring game script on its head. “I’m trying to help salvage spring games and spring football, especially since a multitude of high-profile programs have already canceled their spring games.” Yeah, USC, Nebraska, Texas—you name them, they all bailed, fearing poaching, injuries, and all sorts of mess. But Coach Prime? He’s got something way spicier planned.
Forget those snooze-fest intra-squad scrimmages. Deion’s talking about turning spring ball into an actual showdown. Not just team-versus-team practice, but full-on joint practices and scrimmages against other programs—straight out of the NFL’s preseason playbook. He even laid it out like he was plotting a heist: “I would like to practice against someone for a few days, then you have the spring game.” And now? He’s dead serious about making it happen.
Well, on March 21st, Colorado Buffaloes insider ‘SkoBuffsGoBuffs’ dropped a video clip on X, showing Deion holding a team meeting at Boulder after spring practice. Coach Prime was doing what he does best—keeping it 100. “Why do we want to work?” he said. “We put you on national spotlight, a national showcase of national television, national notoriety. And you don’t want to work that.” He went on, “You all desire. You all want to be somebody..You want to be known… You want to be that guy. But if you go out there and don’t work, you’re gonna make us look like a fool. You gonna look like a fool on national television.”
Coach Prime said Spring Practices and the Spring Game vs another team is a real possibility
“This thing may very well happen…It looks really good right now”

And then came the real kicker. Deion literally drops the latest tea on inter-team spring practice/game: “Because I think it’s getting close, right close. Let’s go, this thing (inter-team) may very well happen…spring practices, in the spring game against another opponent. It may very well happen. It looks really good, right now. Really good. What y’all gonna do about it?” Yeah, he basically told his players to get ready because this isn’t just some fantasy—this is a legit possibility.
The man’s already got some big names buzzing. And when we say buzzing, we mean straight-up calling him out. Syracuse’s head coach Fran Brown was the first to bite when Deion Sanders laid the idea of an inter-team spring game. Brown tweeted, “We will come to Boulder for 3 days.” Bold move, but it gets better.
Deion responded with nothing but love. “Let me give much love and much respect to my dear friend and my brother Fran Brown at Syracuse. I love him to life. I pray that he’s the guy that’s going to make that jump. His university, we’ve already communicated. Fran, I love you, I appreciate you and I’m praying it’s going to happen.” Turns out, everybody wants a little piece of Deion Sanders, especially the Big 12 giants.
Texas Tech and Joey McGuire ain’t backing down—ready to bring the smoke to Deion Sanders
The saga continues. It’s not just Fran Brown who’s ready to roll. Texas Tech’s Joey McGuire is over here throwing gas on the fire like it’s the 4th of July. The man straight-up tagged Deion on social media and said, “(L)et’s work on a waiver for a spring practice together and do it in Dallas at The Star! We are in!” Now, you have to remember, that NCAA rules don’t allow FBS teams to go head-to-head in spring games or even joint practices. But let’s be honest, rules were made to be broken—or at least, twisted a little. And if anyone’s going to make it happen, it’s Deion Sanders.
The reason Deion’s pushing so hard for this? Prime time’s trying to put his guys under the lights and see who’s got that dog in ‘em. “I think the public would be satisfied with that tremendously. I think it’s a tremendous idea,” Deion said during a Monday media session. This is all about giving his players the stage to show what they’re made of, real competition-style.

But here’s the deal: other programs are running scared. They don’t want to show their hand because they’re afraid someone’s going to snatch their top talent straight out of the transfer portal. It’s like everybody’s playing poker with their cards glued to their chest. But Deion? Nah, man. He’s throwing his cards on the table and telling everyone to ante up.
What’s wild is that Deion’s vision ain’t even all that complicated. It’s just smart. Run practices like the pros. You get more competition, better evaluations, and way more entertainment for the fans. And you best believe the NCAA is paying attention because if this thing happens and it pops off the way Deion’s planning, it could change the entire game.
So, what’s next? Will the NCAA fold under the pressure and finally let teams throw hands in the spring? Will Joey McGuire’s Texas Tech be the first to square up against Deion’s Buffs at The Star? Well, whatever it is, this college football offseason is about to be a straight-up must-see.
