Naji Marshall has become a fan favorite ever since Luka Doncic was traded to the Lakers. Don’t get us wrong; they loved him before the trade, too. But they latched onto him like never before once Luka left. However, things may have changed from Naji’s side after some shenanigans online.
So what happened exactly? Well, it all started when Marshall was smoking a cigar when he went live on Instagram. Soon, trolls started flooding into the comments, calling him out for smoking. But this happens a lot, and Naji simply asked the fans to stop cramping his style during the livestream.
However, things escalated quickly when a fan account reposted this on X. “This is a no no…I will look into some trade options,” wrote a Nico Harrison parody account on X. Naji was quick to respond to the troll, “Vacation or a tee time??? Y’all weird I’m genuinely starting to not like y’all!!!!!!!!.”

The troll’s X post was an obvious reference to rumors that the real Nico Harrison and Patrick Dumont traded away Luka Doncic for his habits off the court. Namely, him smoking hookah and enjoying his beer a little too much. Sadly, Naji did not get the joke, and his angry confession has cast doubts over his future as a Maverick.
And the reactions to Naji’s outburst were all over the place. Some doubled down on the trolling, others feared that this would lead to him leaving Dallas. All in all, Naji kicked a veritable hornet’s nest with the way he blew up. So, we’ve compiled some of the reactions that best encapsulate the aftermath.
Dallas fans left concerned after Naji Marshall falls for rage bait
A lot of fans attempted damage control as they tried to get across the fact that this was someone expertly trolling Naji. “Have a little fun with it man yk it was funny,” wrote a Mavs fan. Another fan agreed, saying, “He’s trolling relax man lmaooo.” And they’re not wrong; Naji does need to step back and loosen up a bit. There will always be trolls online looking to get a reaction out of celebrities by saying the wildest things. The Mavs forward could do with some thicker skin if he wants to stay online and not go crazy.
Even so, Naji did get mad at the troll. So, some fans of other teams saw this as the perfect opportunity to nudge Naji to join their team. “Come on back to New Orleans, Naji. They don’t appreciate you,” wrote a Pelicans fan.
A Lakers fan then chimed in, writing, “My boy Luka really misses you in LA champ.” Clearly, some people would love to see Marshall on their team. And it’s no surprise why. Naji is one of the few bright spots in this dark season for the Mavs. He put up a career-high 34 points, 9 boards, and 10 assists against the Phoenix Suns and 29 points with 17 rebounds in the one before that. But these stats are also why no true Dallas fan wants to see Naji leave.
“Naji please he was clowning on Nico fam. Pls don’t leave us,” wrote a member of the Dallas community, pleading with Naji to stay.
“nooo not Naji,” wrote an X user who’s quite evidently less calm about the situation. And it really would be very disappointing to see Naji Marshall fall out with the Dallas fans and the club over something as trivial as this.
