Cubs Brutally Roasted After Bullpen Collapse in 10–6 Loss to D-Backs Sparks Fan Fury: “Sell the Team”

5 min read

Is the Chicago Cubs on the verge of getting sold? Well, that’s what a significant portion of the fans think after the Chicago Cubs conceded a 10-6 loss against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Cubs were right on the game, even leading it, but things changed all of a sudden. The Cubs’ Eli Morgan stepped in, and that was it for them. His pitching was terrible, and he lost the game because he lost control of the mound and allowed the Diamondbacks to score seven runs.

That’s the reason why the fans are lambasting the Chicago Cubs. But what makes it harder to digest is that the game was a tight contest. At one point, the Cubs were even leading over the home team; however, it was all done and dusted once Eli Morgan made an entry. Morgan was at the eighth inning to prevent the Diamondbacks from making runs, but it turned out to be a huge blunder. Now, the fans cannot keep calm as they share their frustration and anger with the team, urging them to sell the team even. Let’s take a deeper look at how the Cubs lost the game.

March 30, Sunday—the Diamondbacks were trailing 6-2 in the eighth inning until they came up with a plan. They sent their 12 batters to the plate, and soon Corbin Carroll and Alek Thomas walked back-to-back from Cubs pitcher Caleb Thielbar. Things got much easier later, once Lourdes Gurriel Jr. tied the game, hitting two home runs, while Josh Naylor added support with an RBI double, thus leading the Diamondbacks to go past the Cubs, winning by 10-6. However, the one to be blamed for the loss is Eli Morgan, who gave away six runs on six hits along with a walk while barely striking out only two batters. It was rather a poor display by the Cubs, sparking massive reactions from the fans, and one of them commented, “DFA Eli Morgan. Fire Jed Hoyer. Sell the team.”

While selling the team may be too much, it’s true that, just like Eli Morgan, Jed Hoyer, as the president of baseball operations for the Chicago Cubs, has been pretty ordinary. Under his reign, the Cubs have missed out on reaching the playoffs in the last four seasons, not even going past the NL Wild Card Series since 2017. Concerns exist even regarding the contracts of a select few players, such as Kyle Tucker. But that’s not all! They even traded a player like Cody Bellinger, who’s been hitting big for the Yankees now, for an amateur prospect named Cody Poteet.

Thus, there is every reason for the fans to be angry at the team and its management after the loss against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Let’s take a look at some of the fans’ reactions.

Chicago Cubs poor display in the game left fans in a frenzy

The Chicago Cubs, indeed, displayed a poor show when facing the Arizona Diamondbacks. Highlighting this, one fan commented, “DFA Eli Morgan. Fire Jed Hoyer. Sell the team.” While everyone expected something great from the Cubs, they rather faltered. And that’s the reason the fans want Eli Morgan’s name immediately removed from the 40-man roster and even Jed Hoyer. The reason’s enough—Morgan allowed six runs on six hits while allowing one walk, which is one of the primary reasons behind the Cubs’ loss on Sunday.

Echoing a similar statement, another fan wanted the Cubs to bring in some new names who can do better pitching. “Fans should not have to tell this team year after year after year after year after year after year to get some damn guys in the bullpen that can actually pitch. How long do we have to be subjected to this crap?” quoted by the fan, indicating the need for some change in the roster.

The BP is just bad. Jed went cheap on the BP because of Ricketts. Sell the team if you’re unwilling to spend money on what it takes to win,” is what an X user commented. Based on the comment, the fan saw the unexpected loss coming, as Jed Hoyer didn’t spend much on the bullpen because of Thomas Stuart Ricketts. It’s true that if the owner is unwilling to spend much, there’s no need to keep a team, right?

The game between the Cubs and Diamondbacks brought more questions than answers for the Cubs, and Jed Hoyer was at the center of it. “Horrible. When Jed leaves, have him take Carter with him. All of the trades and all the pitchers we drafted with these two clowns, and we haven’t developed anything a thing.” There were doubts and questions about Jed Hoyer, and the lack of spending literally made things a mess. The owners didn’t develop anything; neither did they try to get the best pitchers, who could have left a long-lasting impression.

Another sports fanatic agrees with the responses of other fans, stating, “Sell the team; 100% agreed!” His agreement with others’ opinions to sell the team clearly indicates that the team is doing more bad than good. And it’s high time that the management looks at it and makes some roster adjustments while looking closely at the ownership to ensure that the Cubs perform better gradually.
