It seems like the $38.5 million star’s time with the Boston Red Sox might just be over. Once a favorite, his offense is kinda off this season with only four home runs. Plus, his walk rate has fallen from 7.3% to 5.7%. Did you figure out which star Breslow might trade?
Jarren Duran. His batting average currently stands at .271 with a .317 OBP and a .734 OPS. Not great! And so, speculations are mounting about whether the Red Sox want to trade him. The performance struggles aren’t the only reason that Boston may part ways with Duran. It’s also about how they can include one of their top prospects, Roman Anthony, in the roster.
According to MLB analyst and insider Jim Bowden, “It would not surprise me at all if Craig Breslow, the GM of the Red Sox, plans to trade Duran.” And following the rumors, the San Diego Padres have shown interest in the outfielder to bolster their lineup.
Trading Jarren Duran makes sense in order to make room for Roman Anthony, says @JimBowdenGM.

Now, if the Red Sox want to bring Anthony, Craig Breslow needs to place Ceddanne Rafaela to second base, Jarren Duran to center, and Anthony to left. “Or you have to trade one of the outfield corners,” Bowden explained.
Well, the chances are quite high.
Roman Anthony is “not knocking at the door; he’s knocking it down,” manager Alex Cora shared. Yes, he is doing great. Currently the number one prospect, Anthony batted at a .303 average, a .430 OBP, and a .922 OPS, along with eight home runs, 23 RBIs, and 49 strikeouts in the 53 games he played for the Triple-A Worcester.
So, it feels almost obvious that Roman Anthony will make his way into the roster sooner rather than later. Meanwhile, if Jarren Duran gets traded, it may be a good opportunity for the Padres to upgrade their roster.
Will Breslow’s trade decision be a good bet for the San Diego Padres?
Some might argue that the Red Sox are rushing to promote their number one prospect. In fact, some don’t even want the Red Sox to let go of Jarren Duran.
But still, if Breslow turns it into reality, San Diego will bank on this opportunity. They showed their interest in Duran earlier, before the 2024 season. No,w with the trade rumors swirling in the air, he is again one of their major interests, as reported by Dennis Lin of The Athletic.
Currently, the Friars are going through some financial constraints. And perhaps, they can get Jarren Duran at an affordable price and upgrade their left field. Though they do have several options on the left – Jason Heyward, Brandon Lockridge, Tirso Ornelas, or Tyler Wade – none has emerged as a potential solution.
While Heyward slashed .176/.223/.271 before getting injured, Ornelas slashed .071/.188/.071. And the others have been switching to different positions now and then. Now, if we consider Jarren Duran, despite his early-season struggles, he batted at an impressive average of .285 and posted 21 home runs for 129 wRC+. He is a great left fielder, and probably, a great bet for the Padres at the moment.
Although nothing’s been confirmed yet, there’s no denying that Duran will be a good upgrade for the Padres. Or do you have anyone else in mind?
