Looks like big controversies never end in the NFL, even in the offseason. Several well-known names criticize each other often. And everyone is aware that Deion Sanders and Asante Samuel are currently experiencing the same issue. The two have been arguing over who is the better player between them. Interestingly, while the two are going back and back on one another, taking shots, CJ Gardner-Johnson suddenly came into the picture.
Well, let’s go back a little to gain some more context. All of this started when Asante Samuel called the ‘T-step’ tactic for the CBs a stupid idea. And while it was his opinion, Deion Sanders despised this. The HC claimed that the tactic is wonderful, and some people simply don’t know how to use it. And that’s how this feud began. There was some back and forth between the two legends, which eventually led to Samuel uploading a three-and-a-half-minute video. In this clip, he just explained and claimed that he is better than Sanders. And CJ Gardner-Johnson, somewhere, agrees with this.
Love Coach Prime, but the coaches ain’t showing us his technique tape in the film room during the week. As many of us love Coach Prime, but these coaches are going off what’s going on today! The ball has changed. This ERA of ball has tons of great corners.

The Eagles star went to the X to share his feelings over the incident. The CB said that, while he has always believed in the Colorado Buffaloes’ head coach, this time he may be wrong. Johnson was emphatic in his assertion that this is a new era of football. And here, anyone with a good grip can become a terrific CB.
The X post read, “Love Coach Prime, but the coaches ain’t showing us his technique tape in the film room during the week. As many of us love Coach Prime, but these coaches are going off what’s going on today! Ball has changed this ERA of ball has tons of great corners.” Surprisingly, Deion Sanders has yet to respond to this criticism. And, given the current controversy, it will be no surprise if the coach comes out and drops a bombshell on X anytime soon. But this will only happen if he did not appreciate Johnson‘s message.
CJ’s statements undoubtedly give Asante Samuel an advantage over Deion Sanders in the controversy. And this support from the Eagles star came at the right time, as the HC recently burned Samuel.
Deion Sanders has questioned Asante Samuel’s legendary status
Deion Sanders is surely a massive legend. The man has dedicated his entire life to sports, and he is almost every time right in his statements. So, Asante Samuel’s suggestion that he is superior to Sanders has irritated the Buffaloes’ head coach. And in his rage, Deion issued a short roast statement, calling Samuel’s legendary status into question.
“It’s not fair, Skip. What is not fair, and I had some cats from yesterday, always challenging me and comparing themselves to me. I would look in the camera and tell them, ‘Stop comparing a monument to a darn moment.’ They had moments; I’m a darn monument, man. Like, stop the foolishness,” said Sanders. This was a cruel roast by the HC, but surprisingly, fans have supported these comments.
On top of that, if we look at the statistics, Sanders is far ahead of Asante. Deion Sanders played 188 games throughout his 14-year career, recording 512 tackles and 53 interceptions. On the other hand, Asante Samuel’s 11-year career included 434 tackles and 51 interceptions. While the metrics are marginally comparable on average, Deion does have an intriguing returner record. He is a return specialist, with 6 punt return TDs and 3 kickoff return TDs.
But again, these were merely quantitative comparisons between the two players. So, what are your thoughts? Was Deion Sanders better than Asante Samuel? Drop your thoughts and stay tuned for more updates.
