Floyd Mayweather did two things: beat opponents with ease and sell massive pay-per-views. After all, in the history of combat sports, there has never been a card that sold more PPVs than the record-breaking 2015 Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao clash. While Mayweather has retired, the Filipino legend is set to make his return to the ring on July 19 for a WBC welterweight title bout against the champion Mario Barrios at the age of 46.
The other most memorable boxing match in ‘Money Mayweather’s career came against UFC megastar Conor McGregor, who had never boxed professionally before. Because of the sheer speed and precision skills of both men, they were able to make the 2017 crossover boxing match with the Irishman an absolute spectacle, which made history as the bout that sold the second-most PPVs. Regardless, despite having retired in 2017, Floyd Mayweather has kept himself in shape and is as sharp as a boxer still in his prime, thanks to his numerous exhibition bouts.
His discipline and ability to stay in shape hardly need mentioning. Floyd Mayweather Jr. developed his incredible boxing IQ and impregnable Philly style under the tutelage of his father, former pro boxer Floyd Mayweather Sr., and the latter’s brothers, Jeff, and two-time world champion Roger. As you can imagine, Senior is incredibly proud of his son and thinks very highly of him. Perhaps a bit too highly, as Floyd Sr. predicted what would happen if his son fought Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor, again, on the same night.
“I really believe so. I really believe this. I’m telling you the honest truth. I’m telling you this right here, Floyd can whoop Pacquiao and then turn right back around, give him a little, give him about three rounds rest, then he’ll come back and get Conor. And I’m telling you, both of them going to sleep,” Floyd Sr told his younger brother, Jeff Mayweather, on the latter’s YouTube channel.

Floyd Sr fought between 1974 and 1990, fighting some of the greats like ‘Sugar’ Ray Leonard and Marlon Starling, but he never won a championship. Floyd, of course, has gone on to become one of the greatest ever to lace up the gloves. So it is understandable that Floyd Sr. feels his son would knock out Pacquiao and McGregor on the same night. But most are skeptical of the claim, given everything we know about the three fighters.
Could Floyd Mayweather knock out Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor on the same night?
To be fair, Floyd Jr has fought and beaten both Conor McGregor and Manny Pacquiao. But ‘Money’ wasn’t really known for being a knockout artist. In fact, quite the opposite. Floyd Jr, of course, had an ironclad defense and used a mostly defensive boxing style to win on points.
In his fight with Pacquiao, too, the 50-0 boxer chose to stick and move, never really getting into any extended exchanges with the former Philippine Senator, ultimately winning the bout on points. Pacquiao, on the other hand, was a devastating power puncher who stalked and overwhelmed his opponents with unceasing forward pressure and volume punches.
So it is really difficult to imagine Floyd Mayweather actually going toe to toe with Manny Pacquiao and knocking him out. McGregor, however, is a different story. Although the former UFC double champion did manage to give Mayweather problems in the opening rounds of their crossover clash, McGregor was gassed out by the fourth, and the fight was stopped in the tenth with the Irishman nearly out on his feet. So Money could go on a rampage and stop ‘Mystic Mac’ because of the skill difference between the two. But Pacquiao is in another league altogether. What do you think about Floyd Mayweather Sr.’s tall claims about Floyd beating Pacquiao and McGregor on the same night?
