Colorado Players Lose Faith in Coach Prime & Leave Program as Undrafted Shilo Sanders Gives Up Hope

5 min read

Deion Sanders‘ curse of the stars continues. He bade an emotional goodbye to Shilo Sanders and Shedeur Sanders a few months back. He hit a pause in his responsibilities as a coach, but his duties as a father cannot stop. Coach Prime couldn’t just sleep at night, pulling all the nitty gritty of his sons’ draft future over the last few months. It’s never new for the Colorado head coach to be called out for putting his sons before anything and everything. But as the draft rigmarole finally came to a halt, the digs loom larger than ever.

Shedeur Sanders has been under a real bad spell during the two draft nights. His prolonged absence on the board put the internet into a frenzy. One of the most touted NFL prospects of the 2025 class not being able to see his name as late as the third round, quite unsurprisingly, left Shedeur on pins and needles. He was visibly upset when the New Orleans Saints, a highly anticipated spot for Shedeur, moved on from him for Kelvin Banks Jr. Deion anxiously shook his head to express his disgust. However, Shedeur showcased a high level of maturity, greeting the guests with a confident yet humble message. He said he knows God has better and bigger things for him, so no bad taste at all! However, finally, the dust looks to be settled as Sanders found his home at the Cleveland Browns in the 5th round of the draft.

Then came a moment of celebration! Shedeur, alongside his dad and other family members, exploded in a rasping celebration. But guess what, in the meantime, the Buffs are facing some tough portal blows. And where is their head coach? Busy shaking his legs for the long-awaited feat of Shedeur? The question evoked a serious scrutiny after a Buff insider, Brian Howell, threw a slight threat to Coach Prime for seemingly being indifferent to the Colorado matters.

“While we wait for Shedeur Sanders to be drafted, Colorado has lost one of its top-2 CBs and potential starters at RB and LB to the portal since last night, after losing a possible starter at guard a few days ago. #cubuffs,” Howell tweeted. The update only added to Deion’s collection of brickbats. A year back, former Colorado player Xavier Smith accused Deion of forcing him to hit the portal. He told The Athletic that he left in tears as Coach Prime never wanted to explore him. While players like Tyler Brown defended the coach later, the graze remained fresh.

However, this time, the allegations don’t seem to be hollow at all. Brandon Hood will be leaving Boulder shortly, according to reports on Friday night. The Buffs running back spent only a season under Deion Sanders’ biggest portal classes last year. The list continues as the insider mentioned. But the elder Sanders, who ditched a lucrative Dallas Cowboys interest to stay loyal to his school, didn’t seem to pay heed. He is too busy to have his sons’ backs in their crucial career transitions. But that too doesn’t get him anywhere.

Shilo Sanders doesn’t see a point in holding onto his NFL hope

While Shedeur Sanders finally got a fifth-round selection, his brother Shilo keeps waiting as a free agent. All eyes were on the most underrated Sanders in the family, but there’s still no wild card entry scene. Sanders has the skill to nail it in the pro. He has the IQ to make decisions; he is an effective coverage defender with a penchant for forcing fumbles. Only a bad year riddled with injuries and penalties can’t cost him a spot in the NFL. Don’t tell me! There’s still room, but the safety is giving up hope.

The whole family has been in Texas, where both brothers watch the draft from home. But right from Day 1, the Sanders family felt a chip on their shoulder after their most touted prospect failed to turn heads. Shilo seemed to be the most worried among all. He knows where he stands and where his brother does.

He told about Shedeur, “If they making him wait — oh buddy, I don’t even know what they going to do with me.” Now, as the elder brother got his home, Shilo might be the next. But again, a typically uncertain call, enough to put Coach Prime on the edge of his seat.
