Colorado Buffaloes Send Strong Transfer Portal Message to Players Who Still Have Not Found Teams in Latest Announcement

6 min read

Deion Sanders has already flipped the Colorado Buffaloes’ narrative in a way few thought possible. He took a 1-win program to 9 wins and drew in strong viewership for both their TV show and actual games. He’s not just coaching; he’s engineering a full-blown movement—one built on opportunity, discipline, and second chances. But what happens when that same program turns its eyes to athletes left stranded in the wild west of the transfer portal? Well, that’s where this offseason plot gets even spicier.

Colorado’s 2025 recruiting class is already looking stacked—14 high school commits, 28 transfers, and a roster that’s building momentum fast. But instead of sitting back and flexing those numbers, the Buffaloes made a surprising move. They extended a hand to the forgotten ones—the players still stuck in the transfer portal with no team to call home.

Yep, the Colorado Buffaloes just announced its full camp schedule for June, and it includes a direct invitation to those unsigned portal athletes. Kicking things off on June 3rd, their Post Grad Camp will welcome qualified high school grads, JUCO transfers, and portal players still searching for a second shot. The message was loud and clear, courtesy of Colorado’s Director of Recruiting, Darrius Darden-Box.

“If you’re in the portal and hadn’t found a home, come showcase your abilities in front of our staff at our post-grad camp!! HS kids come and earn an offer! We signed @Zayne_desouza straight from his performance and competitiveness he showed in camp last summer! Come compete! ” he tweeted. That one tweet? It said everything. Colorado isn’t just scouting stars—they’re opening the doors to anyone hungry enough to prove themselves. And they’ve got the receipts to back it up.

Take tight end Zayne Desouza, for instance. The 6’6”, 255-pound two-way talent impressed so much in last year’s summer camp that he walked away with a Buffaloes offer. His junior season stats weren’t too shabby either—330 receiving yards and a touchdown while playing in Colorado’s 4A class. Listed as the No. 8 prospect in the state, Zayne made his decision not just because of football, but because of culture. “They’re an amazing program with a lot of experienced coaches at the NFL level, and you can tell they really care about their players,” he said.

And it’s not just the post-grad crew getting a shot. The entire month of June is booked with camp opportunities that offer everyone—from elementary schoolers to high schoolers to walk-on hopefuls—a chance to get noticed.

On June 5th, it’s the Elite Camp for grades 9-12, where underclassmen and seniors can work directly with coaches and chase that elusive offer. Then, from June 10th–11th, CU’s Youth Football Camps (grades 3–8) will shift the focus to drills, footwork, and fun.

But Coach Prime and crew didn’t stop there….

On June 12th, Colorado’s Women’s Clinic will give a behind-the-scenes experience of Buffs football—complete with strategy sessions, team interaction, and a deep dive into what makes Sanders’ program tick. And finally, June 18th wraps it all up with a bang at Folsom Field: the Prime Time 7v7 Classic, Buffalo Elite 5v5 Lineman Camp, and the CU Specialist Camp for kickers, punters, and long snappers.

No stone is being left unturned this offseason—and every type of player, coach, or aspiring pro is getting a look.

Colorado Buffaloes’ No-Nonsense Culture

But this isn’t just about flashy opportunities. Deion Sanders is running his program with something a lot deeper—purpose. This is the same coach who once stepped in to support WR Jimmy Horn Jr. during a deeply emotional moment when his father was incarcerated. That level of care? It’s now embedded in every message Sanders sends his players.

Last offseason, after a Colorado professor raised concerns about players’ academic focus, Sanders didn’t go silent—he went straight to his team, reading the letter aloud and demanding more. “Be professionals,” he told them. “Respect your studies like you respect your reps.”

He’s not just building athletes; he’s building accountable men. Sanders knows most of these players won’t make it to the NFL. That’s why discipline, time management, and accountability matter just as much as speed and verticals. And the message he’s been sending lately is crystal clear: don’t waste your opportunity.

“Be careful. Not everyone around you truly wants the best for you,” he warned during a recent speech to the team. The moment wasn’t just about locker room leadership—it was a warning about distractions and short-sighted decisions.

Spring practice may be over, but Coach Prime isn’t letting off the gas. With summer downtime usually turning into a window for injuries, bad decisions, and burnout, he took to social media to give his players a heartfelt reminder.

“All my @CUBuffsFootball PLAYERS & STAFF. I love u @ I miss u. Please be safe & don’t do anything to jeopardize your opportunity to be a Professional. Be careful out there because everyone around u ain’t really down for u and everybody else is just there.” That tweet? It’s vintage Sanders—part mentor, part motivator, all truth.

He knows how easily potential can get lost in the shuffle of hype, distractions, or poor decisions. Which is why, even while inviting new talent in through his camps, he’s also circling the wagons to protect the players already in the fold. This is the blueprint for the Colorado Buffaloes.
