Cheryl Reeve Discloses Locker Room Hardship as WNBA Veteran Makes Bold Request During Dallas Wings Game

The dynasty may have faded, but the Minnesota Lynx never stopped building, and the results are showing now. After dominating the 2010s with legends like Maya Moore and Sylvia Fowles, they managed to rebuild without ever bottoming out. Now with Napheesa Collier leading the charge and Cheryl Reeve still steering the ship, they’re rolling through 2025 with a perfect 9-0 record. And well, their veteran has got just the attitude to back that.

For their 9th straight win, it was the dismantled, disoriented Wings that came in their line of fire. Even if the Paige Bueckers-less team managed to outscore them in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, the Lynx never let go of the lead. With Napheesa Collier going off for 28 points and 10 boards while Kayla McBride dropped a smooth 21 points of her own, they completely shut Dallas down. But not everything was smooth sailing in the background.

Courtney Williams missed a part of the game, playing only for 17 minutes to her usual 30 and above. That wasn’t just to give the bench a few minutes. “At halftime, there was some concern about her calf muscle and we really really aired on the side of caution,” the head coach revealed during the post-game conference. When your veteran guard signals an issue, caution becomes non-negotiable.

Williams, averaging 13.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game, has been crucial on offense for the Lynx. Interestingly, the second half has been the time she pops off. 32 points. A perfect 8-of-8. That was her performance in the first two games after she came in determined to win that ring.  “That’s the main motivation, man, we trying to go get us one. So honestly, that’s the main motivation and that’s the only motivation at this point,” she had said after the season opener. She sure hasn’t let go of that sterness.

“Until the start of the fourth quarter when she demanded that she be given an opportunity to play,” Reeve revealed after the 81-65 win against Dallas on Sunday. That’s the fire a rebuilding Lynx franchise spotted in Courtney Williams while signing her in 2024 following her standout season with Chicago. And they respected the veteran’s wish. “We agreed through the trainer that we would keep it a short stint.”

It was a calculated risk and a good one. After replacing Natasha Hiedeman in place of Courtney Williams, the third quarter was a choppy one. But upon Courtney’s 3-minute return, things picked up. She dished two assists, which turned into a quick five points from Napheesa Collier. From that point on, it was all Lynx.

Courtney Williams Trolls Carrington as Lynx Stay Unbeaten

Courtney Williams couldn’t resist clowning the Dallas Wings’ brutal 1-8 start to the season in a TikTok that blew up on X. The Lynx guard straight-up asked DiJonai Carrington, “Oh the Wings are 1-8. Who did you all beat?” When Carrington stayed silent, Williams asked again, “But for real, who did you all really beat? Chicago? You all didn’t beat Chicago?”

When the Wings guard did reveal it to be the Suns, Courtney’s reaction to it was pure comedy. She couldn’t help but fall on the ground with a face-palm reaction. The chirping came fresh off Minnesota’s 8-0 hot streak. It highlighted just how far apart these two teams are right now.

The Wings had scraped their first win days earlier against Connecticut, thanks to rookie Paige Bueckers’ 21-point breakout, only to spiral into four straight losses. Carrington (13.3 ppg this season) has been one of Dallas’ few bright spots since coming over from the Sun, but Williams (14/5/6 stat line) and the Lynx are operating on another level. They are going all in for the title.
