“I would say I’m at the leading edge of technology in regard to the game of golf, at least from a playing standpoint.” This statement from Bryson DeChambeau gave him the nickname of ‘Mad Scientist.’ In 2017, the data wasn’t considered of much importance, but now it is the key to every decision. In many instances, players have agreed about the importance of data in decision-making. Take the example of Stacy Lewis: when she was chosen to lead the US Team for the Solheim Cup, she started a data-driven approach to make the decisions. And the result?
The result was a zero loss under her captaincy (Tied in 2023 and won in 2024). Now, the usage of tech for golfers is normalized, but witnessing the same from the support system is something new. Watching the golfer’s support system cheering and sharing best wishes has been the best thing, which melts the hearts of the fans. Even the way girlfriends take up sports is similar to their partners. Earlier this week, Julianna Chan was seen practicing for the Par 3 contest at the Masters. But now, days after her update, another prominent name took to X about how she has adopted the habits of her PGA Tour pro boyfriend.
Jake Knapp, who is currently competing at the Houston Open, has seen support from his girlfriend, Makena White. She is a sports fan; apart from Knapp, she supports her favorite hockey teams, i.e., the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators. But her support for the golfer has been a step ahead of expectations. She, with her recent post on X, shared how she was checking the technical side for the tournament.
Sharing about it, she wrote the caption, “Part of dating a golfer is turning into a full-blown meteorologist & checking the rain & wind radar neurotically. The early-late wave players got NUKED with horrible weather in Houston. Late-early wave had virtually no wind or rain.” White, who has been with the golfer as the constant support, has now turned into a more technical support who could assist him with weather predictions.

Even in her post, Nicole Rae, social media director at Skratch, also wrote, “My friends make fun of me because I always- ALWAYS- know the weather. Even when I’m not playing golf. It’s just a thing we sickos do.” Well, the data always helps in staying ahead of the prediction.
But who knew it could help the golfer so much? Jake Knapp’s struggles to Masters might end with the help of his girlfriend.
Jake Knapp’s chance for the Masters
The unwavering support of White for Knapp, even off the course, is just extraordinary. Her expertise might have helped the golfer in knowing the weather. As things are turning on his side. The golfer who is currently placed at 85th in the OWGR will require a solo second or better finish at the Houston Open to secure his name on the roster at the Masters.
It seems like the golfer knows the weather and conditions better to score under par with ease. The 30-year-old who started struggling with 5 bogeys and 7 birdies for 68 in the first round is now finding his rhythm. After the mishap, he tried to make it better as he carded 6 birdies and 3 bogeys for a recording round of 67.
But surprisingly, after the post was shared by White, the golfer recorded a bogey-free round. His round of 65 included 5 birdies. With the help of that, Knapp is currently 10 under-placed at T7. If he continues to play the same way, he might end up T2 or better on the final day.
With the analysis of his girlfriend, Jake Knapp has found his path to redemption. But will he be able to achieve T2 or better results? What are your thoughts on it? Share with us in the comments below.
