Now that Carlos Ulberg has defeated Jan Blachowicz, will he accept the challenge from Jiri Prochazka? Ahead of their UFC London fight, former UFC light-heavyweight champion Prochazka made it clear that he wanted to face the winner of Blachowicz vs. Ulberg. While he initially hoped to fight for the belt, ‘The Czech Samurai’ shifted his focus after the UFC seemingly confirmed a rematch between Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira. With UFC London now over, will the Kiwi rise to the occasion and take on Prochazka’s challenge? Let’s find out.
“But after today’s information, like Alex and Ankalaev, they’re already confirmed their fight. I don’t want to just stay and watch them and wait for the winner. Maybe I will fight with one of these guys with the winner from Saturday night. So let’s see who will be the winner. Let the better (man) win,” said Jiri Prochakza as he emphasized his willingness to be busy.
So, has Ulberg accepted his fight? While having a conversation with the media at the UFC London post-fight press conference, the Kiwi fighter was asked about Jiri Prochazka’s challenge, to which he stated, “Yeah, for sure, I will fight anyone. But I mean, where is he placed at the moment? I’m looking to go forward, for sure, and I’m definitely looking at a title shot in the near future.”
After his victory against Jan Blachowicz, Carlos Ulberg is riding an eight-fight winning streak and believes he might be a contender for the title, at least according to him. “For sure, yes. If you look at guys like the former and current champion, their last fight with Jan Blachowicz was a very close fight. I beat him with a unanimous decision, so it’s a very good feat for me,” said Ulberg when asked about his performance against the Polish fighter.
It should be noted that the fight was close, with many in the community believing that Jan Blachowicz may have actually won. Well, despite this, the Kiwi fighter has called out to the UFC for a title fight, and guess who responded to him? it’s none other than the champion Magomed Ankalaev.
Magomed Ankalaev answers Carlos Ulberg after the recent call-out
Immediately after winning his fight against Blachowicz, Ulberg didn’t waste any time as he called out to the UFC emphasizing that he deserves the title shot more than anyone else at this moment, “The longest win streak in the light heavyweight division so the only thing that’s left for me is a title shot and that’s all there is.” Currently ranked at #6th, the fighter is yet to fight the top contenders of the division. Moreover, even the champ believes that Ulberg will soon be fighting for the belt.
Taking to his X handle, light-heavyweight champion, Magomed Ankalaev backed Carlos Ulberg’s call for a title shot, “Good win for Carlos but Alex is next. He deserves it more than anyone.” Well, it looks like Ankalaev has already made up his mind to fight ‘Poatan’. However, given his performances, we might soon hear Ulberg’s name in a title fight.
