Carlos Rodón’s Wife Ashley Fires Off Sharp Dig At MLB Umpire as Yankees Inch Toward Brutal Series End

4 min read

It all went down at the top of the first inning in what is now becoming a nightmare of a series for the Yankees. The fans had barely settled into their seats when one pitch stirred up a social media buzz. On the field stood a left-hander trying to hold the line. At the plate—Kyle Schwarber, bat cocked and waiting. The count was full, tension was high and the pitch was a slider at 88.1 mph—looked to some like a strike.

However, not to the umpire. Ball four. Schwarber walked and that is when the digital dugout lit up.

Ashley Rodón, wife of Carlos Rodón on Twitter, posted: “Wtf is that about”.

It was subtle, sharp and it came with the unmistakable sting of someone who has had enough of the inconsistency behind the plate. The post contained a screenshot from MLB Gameday, highlighting the questionable call on Pitch #6—a borderline slider hugging the zone. As per the tracker, it could have easily gone either way. However, when it did not go Carlos Rodon’s way, Ashley was not having it.

The tweet was not just a reaction — it was a reflection of mounting frustration from someone close to the action. Carlos Rodón had thrown nine pitches, recorded a strikeout, and allowed no runs in 0.1 innings; however, borderline calls also were costly in a series this brutal. The Yankees entered the game already reeling, having lost two straight to the Phillies. In Game 2, Bryce Harper homered, Kyle Schwarber tallied six RBIs, and Trea Turner dominated, while the Yankees committed their 10th error in five games. Outscored 21-9 over two games, the Yankees’ collapse was becoming undeniable.

As the inning continued, the Yankees’ woes just deepened and if you ask fans—or a frustrated wife in the stands —  the calls are not the only thing falling apart for the Yankees right now. While that one tweet captured a personal moment of frustration, it is just a snapshot of a much bigger interaction—one that has already reached the commissioner’s office.

MLB’s umpire crisis sours league to Fast-Track vital tech fix

At the time of his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred highlighted what could be MLB’s most radical shift in decades—a move that speaks directly to enhancing unrest over umpire inconsistency. In reaction to a rising tide of fan complaints, Manfred confirmed that the Automated Ball-Strike System was tested during the period of the All-Star Game and is now under serious consideration for full-season rollout in 2026. The technology, already tried in the minors, would enable stars to challenge bad strike and ball calls, providing a new level of accountability for umpires.

Manfred admitted fan pressure played a massive role. “The emails about bad balls and strike calls have gone up crazy,” the commissioner said, referencing how visible technology has made umpire errors impossible to ignore. After seasons of hesitation because of technology-related hiccups, Manfred says MLB is now focused on rolling out the system “in a way that’s acceptable to players.” With frustration boiling over at the grassroots and team levels, containing tweets like Ashley Rodón’s, ABS could quickly be the answer to a league-wide cry for fairness

From team tensions to Twitter callouts, uproar around umpiring has reached a boiling point — with the Yankees’ latest frustrations only adding fuel. Stars and their families are speaking out and MLB leadership targets are sweeping change; so no, the status quo just is not cutting it anymore. The season is heating up and postseason hopes are on the line, so the pressure to get every call right is loud. And for good reason.
