Carlos Alcaraz Soaks in Mexican Vibes as He Leaves Behind Miami Open Heartbreak to Enjoy Quality Time With Family

In a candid interview with The Sunday Times ahead of Wimbledon in 2024, Carlos Alcaraz revealed his go-to remedy after tough tournaments: quality time with family, adding, “When I finish a tournament, it doesn’t matter if I win or not, I just want to get home to be with my family. I live with my mum and dad, my older brother and two younger brothers,”. And wasn’t he spot-on?

Time and again, we’ve seen his loved ones standing firmly by his side. Much like the families of other top tennis pros in both ATP and WTA rankings. And right after his Miami Open heartbreak, the 3rd seed is doing just that. He is escaping into the warmth of family, clearing his mind, and recharging with the perfect getaway. But where is Alcaraz unwinding as he plots his next big comeback, though?

The four-time GS winner’s Sunshine Double campaign didn’t go as planned. After a strong SF run at Indian Wells, where he fell short against eventual champion Jack Draper, Alcaraz faced an unexpected early exit in Miami. He lost to David Goffin in his 1st match. Following the heartbreak of the US swing, the 3rd seed has shifted gears. He is finding the perfect escape in the warmth of family and the stunning landscapes of Mexico.

The 21-year-old recently embarked on a vacation to the breathtaking Riviera Maya. He captured priceless moments with his loved ones in the family. From unwinding in the pool to cruising on a boat, playing ‘beach volleyball’, and relishing scenic views, Alcaraz made the most of his downtime.

Sharing glimpses of his getaway on IG, he posted snapshots alongside his parents, elder brother Alvaro, and younger brothers Jaime and Sergio, along with extended family. The vacation vibes were summed up in his energetic tone, quoting, “Tiempo de calidad! ”, a well-deserved break before he gears up for the grueling clay-court season.

Carlos Alcaraz has always cherished family time, and last year was no different for him. During the offseason in December, the young Spaniard treated himself to a well-earned getaway in the Dominican Republic, where he kicked back at the luxurious ‘Punta Cana resort’. Sailing through the crystal-clear Caribbean waters, Alcaraz embraced the warmth of the island as fans welcomed him and his family with open arms. One memorable moment came when he posed for a picture with a staff member after docking at the stunning beaches of ‘Isla Saona’ and ‘Palmilla’, fully embracing the island spirit.

The trip was a family undertaking; Carlos Alcaraz Gonzalez and Virginia Garfia Escandón accompanied their sons, Carlos and Alvaro. A special family portrait captured them all by the resort’s poolside at night, a rare glimpse into the off-court moments of the 4-time GS champion. But even while on vacation, Alcaraz couldn’t completely step away from tennis. Notably, he was seen engaging in a heartwarming display of mentorship with a young local player, tossing balls and providing encouragement, thus showcasing his unwavering dedication to the sport.

Now, after his disappointing Miami Open exit, Alcaraz finds himself in another picturesque getaway in Mexico. While the Riviera Maya vacation offers a much-needed reset, it’s clear that it’s also consolation after his US swing heartbreak. Notwithstanding his family visit, the World No. 3 has directly confronted his Miami loss, providing a self-assessment to guide his preparations for the clay court season.

“Losing my first match hurts,” Alcaraz opens up after his loss at the Miami Open

Carlos Alcaraz, who recently shared his feelings about facing the Big 3, entered the 2025 season with bold ambitions. One of the biggest is his quest to complete a career GS at the Happy Slam. But his dreams took a crushing hit. He ran into the ever-dominant Novak Djokovic in the QF, ending his title hopes in Melbourne.

However, the young Spaniard didn’t dwell on the setback: he roared back in style, claiming his 1st-ever indoor hard court title at the Rotterdam Open. Just when momentum seemed to be building, inconsistency struck again with a QF loss in Qatar, a missed 3-peat at Indian Wells, and another stumble in Miami. And, right after the loss at Miami, he shared his opinion on the disappointing loss.

“How am I feeling? Dreadful. Dreadful because of this defeat. Because this is a tournament I always want to do well at. And losing my first match hurts. This first part of the season… I said that I felt I was playing good tennis. I was feeling good, but after this defeat, I don’t know what to say. I’m not sure whether, in the coming days, I’ll analyse it or try to forget about it. We’ll see,” Carlos added.

Alcaraz’s participation in the Monte-Carlo Masters last year was precluded by a right arm injury. Thereby preventing him from capitalizing on a crucial opportunity. Now, with a highly anticipated return to the tournament, he has a chance to gain significant ranking points and make a strong statement ahead of his season. Do you think he’ll kick off his clay-court season with a title in Monte Carlo?
