Another year, another forgettable season for the Nets. Since Kevin Durant’s departure, they have turned into the laughing stock of the league with constant playoff failure. And this season seems no different as they are stuck at the twelfth seed in the East, on the verge of missing the postseason yet again. Amid these concerns, the Brooklyn franchise has suffered another massive setback as latest update drops about Cam Thomas’ health.
Turns out, the young shooting guard is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Reason? A left hamstring strain that he suffered during the closing minutes of Thursday’s game against the Bulls. While there is a possibility of him returning early, it is unlikely to happen, considering the team’s playoff hopes already seem over and there is no point risking reaggravating Cam’s injury by rushing his return.
More so because Cam has been dealing with a lingering hamstring issue all year. This is his third time injuring the same hamstring. Due to the constant injury woes, he has been limited to playing only 25 games so far. So, it’s a wise move to shut him down for recovery and start preparation for next season. Obviously, Thomas getting sidelined further ruins the Nets’ chances for this year because he is one of their key players, averaging 24 points and nearly four assists.

Giving more insight on Cam’s injury, head coach Jordi Fernandez said ahead of tonight’s Celtics clash, “Disappointed. We feel for him. Obviously, it’s not something that we wanted. We’ll support him through the rehab, we know he’ll be back.” With Thomas hurting the same hamstring multiple times, many might be wondering if he would require surgery. Well, even Fernandez is unsure about it, “I don’t know. From what I’ve been told this, the process is going to start soon, but I don’t have any details on that. I don’t have the qualification for that, but for sure, we’ll do what’s best for him.” Surgery or not, Thomas’ season ending injury has the Brooklyn fans demanding only one thing.
NBA World praises Nets for making the “Right Decision” with Cam Thomas to prioritize The Bigger Goal – Number 1 Pick!
With only fifteen games remaining this regular season, there is a high chance that the Nets will not make it to the next stage. And it might be time to focus on next year. Well, fans believe they have done exactly that by shutting down Cam Thomas, as comments like “Shame that, was looking good as well but absolutely right decision for the tank” and “Good 4 the tank; feel bad for the young man. Very bright future ahead” began flooding in. Yes, although fans are heartbroken about Thomas’ injury, they are focusing on the bigger picture as the bottom seeded teams are competing in a tanking race, hoping to win the lottery by bagging the number 1 pick in this year’s draft.

One Brooklyn fan even wrote, “1 Pick Loading…” As per Tankathon, the Nets currently have the fifth highest odds to win the first pick, at 10.5%. The highest odds belong to three teams, Wizards, Jazz, and Hornets, tied at 14%. So, the Nets are not too far off and might be the team that drafts Duke sensation Cooper Flagg this summer. A move that could rescue the franchise from recent failure.
While Cam’s injury increases their chances of winning the lottery, Brooklyn fans are also concerned about the youngster’s frequent health issues. One wrote, “Damn! That’s tough! 3 Hamstring tweaks in one season” while another said, “This kid can’t stay healthy. He’s gonna be great player for someone else but no way he can stay here he’s so unreliable.”

Well, Thomas is a talent with massive potential and has shown year on year improvement. But that does no good if he cannot stay healthy for an entire season. Hopefully, Cam will figure out a way to get rid of these hamstring issue for good, and it looks like his team is trying everything to make that happen, as Jordi said, “We’re here to support him, and we’ll get him back healthy.” Best case scenario for Nets would be that he returns next season completely healthy playing alongside potential first pick, Cooper Flagg.
