Caitlin Clark’s Injury Rooted in Indiana Coaching Blunder Amid Brother’s Allegations, Says Analyst

Every time the Indiana Fever plays the Connecticut Sun, it is a very, very physical game.” And this time was no different. Though Fever players Sophie Cunningham and Aliyah Boston suffered physicality at the behest of the Sun, it was Caitlin Clark who took the biggest blow during the June 15 game. From confronting the referees and a bout of frustration to another alarming injury, it was one of Clark’s roughest nights in the WNBA.

Moreover, it prompted brother Colin to blame the officials on X. “Make no mistake, this is on the reffing,” Colin had tweeted after the game. Though he alleged that Clark’s right groin injury was a result of bad officiating, Rachel DeMita had a different take on the issue.

Despite dominating the TD Garden arena, the referees failed to acknowledge the unjust physicality against the Fever players. In fact, even a national analyst and ex-ESPN host, Rachel DeMita, addressed the issue in her latest video. “There are multiple moments in this game that were so egregiously called or there was no calls by the referees and it’s getting out of control at this point,” DeMita started. But this was just the tip of the iceberg.

Though Caitlin Clark found herself in an argument with referees in the third quarter, things further escalated for the Fever. And what was next was Clark getting sidelined with hardly a minute left in the game. The Fever superstar clutched her right groin as she walked towards the sidelines, crying.

This injury was further confirmed by head coach Stephanie White and was enough to send Clark’s closest people spiraling into a frenzy. “And even Caitlin Clark’s brother tweeted, this one is on the refereeing,” the analyst started. “There are people in Caitlin Clark’s family who were starting to call out the referees because of how bad they have been.” The unfortunate string of incidents against the referees triggered Clark and her family members.

The last little thing I want to say about Caitlin Clark’s injury, she has been on minutes restriction for the last few games,” DeMita said. “And I’ve always been a bit confused by that because I did not understand why the Fever would bring her back if she was injured at all.” Instead of blaming the refs, the analyst questioned the coaching staff’s decision to reintroduce Clark to the active roster.

Fever HC Stephanie White had revealed to put Clark on a minutes restriction ahead of the tipoff against the Golden State Valkyries. As the face of the franchise and the WNBA, Caitlin Clark’s health is a crucial point of concern and cannot be taken lightly. Besides, the athlete has missed out on a total of 10 games this season, owing to previous injuries.

She’s having an injury that is jumping. It’s not one that is just staying in one area. It’s jumping from quad to quad to groin and now to another groin,” DeMita pointed out. “You can’t mess around with injuries that are moving around your body because it means that mechanically something something isn’t tracking right.” Simply put, the reigning rookie is in dire need of recovery and better diagnostics.

Now, after being sidelined for the first time this season, Clark had clearly announced her intentions of not returning unless she is completely healthy. And despite returning earlier than the designated two-week rest after the recent injury, Clark struggled massively on the hardwood. While she impressed fans with the dimes, the injury impacted her scoring efficiency to a great degree. As the Indiana Fever tries to navigate through Clark’s injuries, can they outshine the other teams in the W? Only time will tell.

The doctor provides an update surrounding Caitlin Clark’s injury

Dr. Jesse Morse analysed Indiana Fever player Caitlin Clark’s recent health update. He broke the news on X (former Twitter) and wrote, “Initially I thought the groin strain she suffered last night was a reinjury, but then I realized it was actually to the opposite side. So that means she has two adductor muscles that are weak and recently strained.” Clark has strained both adductors within three weeks, along with a prior quad strain on her left leg.

Having said that, Caitlin Clark suffered a right groin injury during the highly physical game against the Connecticut Sun. “This is in addition to the left quadriceps strain that kept her out a while,” the doctor started. “Wouldn’t be surprised if there was compensation patterns developing.” Not to forget, Clark was sidelined for the first time this season due to a sprain in the left quadriceps. The adductors and quadriceps provide acceleration, deceleration, and lateral movement.

But when both adductors are compromised, the lower body loses core stability. Add that to a quad strain, and the kinetic chain begins to break down. Besides, Dr. Morse even suggested injecting “a non-inflammatory allograft stem cell product” in the adductor tendon attachments. This will help mobility in the long run. Moreover, this method can help enhance angiogenesis and improve muscle strains and heal soft tissue injuries.

As the Indiana Fever progresses this season, things look difficult for their superstar. While Clark failed to appear against the New York Liberty, her appearance during the 2025 WNBA All-Star games remains uncertain. With HC Stephanie White & Co. focusing on Clark’s health at the moment, White might consider integrating Clark gradually into the games.
