Caitlin Clark Called Out by Fans for ‘Nasty’ Act on Sidelines During Game Against Connecticut

4 min read

“Everybody’s getting better except the officials.” HC Stephanie White had echoed the sentiment after Indiana Fever’s brutal clash against the Connecticut Sun. How could the recent showdown be any different? Though the Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun engaged in explosive scuffles in the previous showdown, matters boiled on the courtside this time. And at the center of the issue stood one player in particular: Caitlin Clark.

It was one of those rough nights for Caitlin Clark. Her disappointing performance continued as she averaged 14 points on 4 for 14 shooting with eight rebounds and seven assists against the Sun. But that was not all. The 2024 ROTY was sidelined during the final moments of the game, crying and clutching her leg. Even HC White confirmed the injury scare and said that Clark, “felt a little something in her groin.”

However, in another clip that surfaced online, Clark can be seen complaining about the official, particularly Michael Price, and her antics have displeased some. One of the Fever fans shared a clip on X and called out the guard for her nasty behavior. “Why Clark snatching the towel like that from the building staff? She be crashing out for no reason bro. Yikes,” the post read.

An annoyed Clark can be seen walking to the sidelines, where rest of her teammates- Kelsey Mitchell, Sophie Cunningham, Natasha Howard, and Damiris Dantas, were already seated. She walked to the Connecticut staff, who extended a towel to Clark. Instead, the reigning rookie angrily jerked the towel from the staff member before seating herself between Cunningham and Howard. It was all too uncharacteristic for the generally calm superstar.

Though fans heavily focused on Clark’s negative reaction, the actual reason behind Clark’s untoward reaction still seemed to be the overall officiating in the game. It all began in the third quarter when the officials called for a Coach’s Challenge. But the challenge was immediately overturned and the Sun went back to the timeout. Already having committed three turnovers and with just five points, the Fever star engaged after a heated confrontation with Michael Price.

While cameras failed to catch what Price said, they captured Clark’s expressions. The player was taken aback when the call was overturned, and was seen saying “What’s that!?” as the official walked past the athlete without an explanation. Within moments, Clark seemed to be in rage and yelled across the floor, “That has nothing to do it it. Are you f- kidding me?” she said, clearly aggravated by the official’s statement.

As Caitlin Clark & Co. navigates through the regular games this season, can they surpass the second ranked team on the Eastern Conference standings? The Indiana Fever is on a roll, with three wins on the trot. And while they clinched an impressive 85-77 win despite Clark’s struggles, it will be interesting to see how long they can continue winning.

Indiana Fever HC opens up about Caitlin Clark’s injury

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark’s sophomore season has been marred with injuries. After initially missing five games due to a left quad sprain, she missed five more after the groin injury. Clark is currently averaging 16.5 points and 8.8 assists per game, and can undoubtedly improve at least the former, having averaged 19.2 points in what was her rookie year.

So, when the athlete hit the sidelines last night, it was enough to scare her teammates and fans alike. And though everyone awaited a positive update, head coach Stephanie White’s instead disappointed fans.

“No update, just felt a little something in her groin. So we’ll evaluate it and see what happens,” White said. While the statement did not indicate or deny a possible injury, the Indiana Fever team and the HC will evaluate Clark’s condition before determining her playing status in the upcoming games.
