Browns Announcer Clears Stance on Standout Rookie Between Shedeur Sanders & Dillon Gabriel at Minicamp

4 min read

The Cleveland Browns have stacked their QB room this season like it’s the only position that matters. With five QBs on the roster, ranging from seasoned vets to promising rookies, it’s safe to say they’re not short on options. Honestly, they might have enough to lend one to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who seem forever caught in a QB shuffle. Naturally, all eyes are on Cleveland to see who emerges as the QB1. If it were just about who’s grabbing the spotlight, Shedeur Sanders might already have the job. But things aren’t that simple in Cleveland.

The truth is, all five of these quarterbacks will have to earn their chances in practice. During the team’s recent rookie minicamp, HC Kevin Stefanski kept a close eye on Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel. Naturally, fans were curious: between the two rookie QBs, who stood out the most? Well, Browns announcer Andrew Siciliano has weighed in. In his latest TikTok video, he answered the much-asked question.
Both Dylan Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders looked really good in three days of practice. They both made some really good throws. They also, at times, looked like rookies. That’s expected. But they both looked the part,” Siciliano said.

And better yet, off the field and on the podium, they were both amazing. I mean, two very different guys. But both said everything right. Carried themselves well. Represented the organization well,” he added. The broadcaster explained that it’s only May, and there’s still plenty of time for the Browns to figure things out. And sure, the NFL world thrives on QB debates and locker room drama. But Siciliano made it clear that, for now, there’s no controversy to feed on. “What if I told you there is no controversy? They’re both pretty good so far,” he said.

With five QBs on the roster, Browns fans are hoping this is the year Kevin Stefanski finally lands a long-term starting QB. Holding the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft, many expected the Browns to select a top quarterback early. But in a surprising move, the front office traded away that pick for multiple later selections.

Deshaun or Dillon? Breaking down Cleveland’s QB race

After trading their No. 2 pick, the Browns didn’t put all their eggs in one basket. Instead, they grabbed two QBs, Dillon Gabriel from Oregon in the third round (94th overall) and Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round (144th overall). Now, these two rookies will have to battle it out, not just between themselves but also against three veterans, to earn the starting QB spot. Looks like the Browns are in for some serious competition in the QB room before the 2025 season even kicks off.

If we talk about Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel’s physical build, the Colorado QB is taller and bigger than the Oregon QB. Sanders stands 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 212 pounds, while Gabriel is 5 feet 11 inches and 205 pounds. This difference is also why many analysts see Sanders as a better fit than Gabriel.

Shedeur is 6’2”, and that’s a legit 6’2”,” Colin Cowherd said on his show. “I’ve seen him next to average-sized people—he’s clearly a big guy. A solid 6’2”. Mahomes is 6’1 and a half. Aaron Rodgers? People don’t usually talk about his size, but he’s 6’1” with thick calves and big wrists.” Okay. For Cowherd, Sanders stands out as the better quarterback. But what about others?

Dillon Gabriel is noticeably smaller and thinner than Bo Nix. And Bo Nix? He’s already considered undersized for the NFL. Shedeur Sanders? He’s just bigger and better.” Both quarterbacks had strong senior seasons. Sanders put up over 4,100 passing yards and 37 touchdowns, while Gabriel threw for nearly 3,900 yards and added 149 rushing yards with 7 touchdowns on the ground.

All in all, both had standout performances, making the QB competition even more exciting. With so much talent and potential on the field, the Browns’ QB battle is shaping up to be one of the most thrilling storylines of the season. And nobody knows who will come out on top.
