Broncos Host Struggling WR Prospect With Monstrous 2023 Season as Bo Nix Receives Clear Message Before $23M Decision

4 min read

Well, the Broncos did a great job in the 2024 season, with the offense led by Bo Nix. Though they ended the season against the Bills in a 31-7 wild-card game, they now have a solid base to be confident upon as the new season is on the way. And to do that, Sean Payton’s Broncos are missing one player who can be a great fit to help out Nix on the receiving end. The Broncos recently hosted the player we are talking about, and he is on the team’s radar.

After landing Evan Engram from free agency to enrich the offensive squad, the Broncos are eyeing the 2025 NFL draft to land this wide receiver who is struggling to get a top pick. An NFL reporter, Mile Klis, posted on X, “Per source, Broncos hosted a top 30 visit with Missouri WR Luther Burden III last week. Had a huge 2023 season: 86-1212-9. Fell off some last year.” Yes, we are talking about the same player who dominated college football’s whole 2023 year.

The Broncos sent all their staff, including coaches, to top colleges to evaluate suitable players. And according to analysts, Luther Burden III’s pick in the first round would be perfect. And the reason behind that could be Burden III’s ability to get to the downfield, separate the field, give an opportunity to the quarterback to pass on the ball, and land a touchdown or gain more yards.

To talk about his stats, the Missouri Tigers No. 3 played three years with the team. And in those three years, he made a name so that even if his 2024 season didn’t go well, he still had the opportunity to get drafted at the 20th pick in round 1. In the 2024 season, Burden III made 61 receptions for 676 yards and landed 6 touchdowns. And in the 2023 season, this beast received 86 passes for 1212 yards and scored nine touchdowns. He also has 56 long receptions in his name for that season.

If Sean Payton’s franchise manages to land Burden III in the city of Denver, it looks like they would never regret it. Well, let’s see if that happens or not. But while this update hit the Broncos, Bo Nix received a clear message before the team’s $23 million decision.

$23M decision, superstar TE, and a message to Bo Nix

Even three weeks after Evan Engram landed in Denver, the tight end was not catching a break to make headlines. The Broncos landed this star tight end on March 12 in a two-year $23,000,000 deal. But before signing this contract, Engram had to decide which team he wanted to go to between the Chargers or the Broncos. And thanks to Bo Nix, because of him, Evan came to the city. And remembering that he has sent a message to Bo.

According to The Denver Post‘s Luca Evans, Evan Engram’s decision to join the Broncos hinged largely on his evaluation of Bo Nix. As relayed by Engram’s trainer, Drew Lieberman, the tight end was weighing whether the quarterback situation in Denver would allow him to reach his full potential in Sean Payton’s offense.

I think it was looking at all that, and then saying, ‘Is this quarterback good enough to fulfill this and allow me to maximize my potential in this offense?’” Lieberman said. “And then, I think, when you turn Bo on, [Engram] was like, ‘Oh, not only is he good enough, like, he’s really good. He’s tough, he can make all the throws, he’s athletic.’”

Engram clearly saw enough. Nix threw 29 touchdowns in his rookie season—sixth-most in the NFL—and ranked 12th in passing yards. That performance gave Engram the confidence to commit to Denver over the Chargers, signing a two-year, $23 million deal in March.
