Something that caught all eyes from the Blue Jays-Yankees series is the dwindling defense of the Bombers. So, while the defense effort was commendable, the caption tells a larger story here. The story goes back to the first week of July when the Blue Jays swept the Yankees. While the Jays moved to the pole position in the AL East that time, it still didn’t impress Yankees announcer Michael Kay. For him, “The Blue Jays are not a first-place team.” However, what followed was a purely horror story for the Yankees.
The Yankees lost the series, slipped from the pole position, and fell short in the second series against the Jays as well. So yeah, this time Kay admitted that maybe he articulated it poorly. However, too late for the Blue Jays not to take a shot at the Yankees’ fumbling defense. The first two games against the Jays witnessed fielding misplays by Anthony Volpe and the bullpen blowing up. The trend continued in the third game, with Cody Bellinger being the one to be blamed for the latest 8-4 loss.
