Black Panther Icon Michael B. Jordan’s Latest Release Sends an Obsessed Coco Gauff Straight to the Theatres

Coco Gauff may be best known for her explosive forehands and excellence on court, but there’s a side of her that extends well beyond the baseline. The World No. 4 is just as likely to be found courtside at a film premiere or scrolling through scores on Spotify as she is lifting trophies on the tennis circuit. Earlier this year, she stepped into the magical world of Wicked, Ariana Grande’s musical fantasy film. Not long after, she revisited the cult-favorite Interstellar, adding her voice to the film’s longstanding online hype. Her growing reputation as a movie buff even took her to one of the industry’s biggest nights—the Oscars Vanity Fair after-party—where athletes rarely cross over. So what’s the latest movie that has her hype?

Recently, Gauff stepped out with her father, Corey Gauff, for a movie night. The pair went to catch Sinners, Michael B Jordan’s latest cinematic venture, which features the actor in a double role as twin brothers. Directed by Ryan Coogler, the visionary behind Black Panther, the film debuted in the U.S. last Friday and has already drawn a wave of positive reviews.

In a story shared on Instagram, the American posted a screen from the theatre and captioned it, “sinners was so good and the music.” Her movie night didn’t end when the credits rolled. Gauff’s admiration spilled over to the film’s soundtrack, prompting her to make a separate Instagram story. Sharing a screenshot of the track “Magic What We Do” by Ludwig Göransson, she wrote, “score for this was unbelievable, the chills this scene gave me omg. one of my fav movie scenes I’ve ever watched.”

Coco Gauff is a huge fan of Michael B Jordan. She once revealed in an interview that the Black Panther fame actor was her childhood celebrity crush.

But the 21-year-old’s love for the big screen isn’t just a solo affair. She even brought it into a playful moment with her former doubles partner, Jessica Pegula. In a moment of spontaneity, Gauff crashed fellow American Jessica Pegula’s WTA Tour interview at the Dubai Tennis Championships. She walked straight up and called her out: “You never responded to my texts. This girl invited me to go to the movies. I said let me know when you wanna go and she never responded so she’s fake,” Gauff joked.

Not one to let a ghosted movie plan ruin her vibe, the former US Open champ doubled down. Later that day, she posted another story with a bold caption: “Lol @jpegula I made it without you,” she wrote, with a Captain America shield and a giant bucket of popcorn in hand. For Gauff, missing the movies is apparently not an option.

This obsession with Marvel runs deeper than just a shield or a film screening. It made its way onto the court—quite literally. At the 2025 Australian Open, Gauff revealed that her outfit was inspired by female superheroes. Sponsored by New Balance, she wore a sleek bodysuit with a solid white tank top and a short grey wrap-around skirt. “I’m a huge Marvel fan, and a lot of the female superheroes have cool cut-outs on their outfits. That’s what I wanted to do,” she explained after winning her opening match.

And when we talk about fashion in tennis, the 21-year-old is proving she’s always at the forefront.

Coco Gauff unveils New Balance x Miu Miu Collaboration

Fashion isn’t far behind on Coco Gauff’s list of interests. Known for her signature on-court style, the 21-year-old is now teaming up with New Balance and high-end label Miu Miu for a new collaboration. Taking the court fashion game up several notches, the 21-year-old will debut the pieces from this capsule collection at upcoming events including the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, the Berlin Tennis Open in June, and the Cincinnati Open in August.

The American tennis starlet shared the news on Instagram, writing, “Miu Miu but on court, this time with New Balance!”

Still, amid all the glamour, competition remains front and center. Gauff will be back in action soon, as she begins her Mutua Madrid Open campaign on Thursday. She faces Dayana Yastremska in the second round and will look to build on her already strong season.

Whether it’s movies, Marvel, or Miu Miu, Gauff keeps showing that there’s no box she can’t break out of. Will she bring that same magic to Madrid this week?
