Billy Horschel & Fans Left Stunned as Max Homa Finally Gets Back to His Form at Quail Hollow

4 min read

Not to jinx the golfer’s amazing form, but Max Homas comeback in golf was long overdue. After a year of struggling to find his footing, fans were eagerly waiting for a resurgence from the six-time PGA Tour winner. His recent performances had been a mixed bag, leaving many wondering if the magic was gone. And rightfully so. Homa missed five consecutive cuts this season, including at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and at THE PLAYERS Championship. To add to that, Homa also landed last at the 2025 RBC Heritage with a dismal score of 2 over par. But all that seemed to be forgotten during the second round of the PGA Championship as Homa took to the course.

Homa got off to a scorching start in the second round of the PGA Championship, birdying two of his first four holes on Quail Hollow’s back nine. The real showstopper, however, came at the drivable par-4 14th, a 347-yard challenge that few golfers would dare attempt with a driver. Homa wasn’t afraid to take on the risk, threading his ball over the trees and onto the green, stopping it just a foot from the hole. The shot was met with awe on social media, with many hailing it as one of the most spectacular shots in recent memory.

The eagle was a welcome boost to Homa’s score, moving him to four under through five holes. It’s worth noting that Homa’s incredible shot brings to mind the only other par-4 ace in PGA Tour history, achieved by Andrew Magee in 2001. While Homa’s shot was no fluke, it certainly had an element of luck to it. Regardless, it’s a testament to Homa’s skill and daring approach to the game.

With this kind of form, Homa’s chances of winning the championship just got a whole lot better, and the golf world is over the moon with the possibility.

Netizens shower support on Max Homa after his latest PGA Championship showing

Starting off strong with what one fan said, “Holy drivable green! Max Homa with a near ace on a par 4!”, and even PGA Tour pro Billy Horschel was in awe, “.” But Horschel supporting his competitors shouldn’t be a surprise, as the golfer never misses a chance to show his sportsmanship. One such instance was seen at the Wyndham Championship, where he was seen cheering on playing partner Aaron Rai in the final round. Rai praised Horschel as a “class act” after the American fist-pumped and congratulated him on his winning putt. “He was very encouraging to me walking down that hole, which was extremely nice of him, just being extremely positive,” Rai said.

“My gosh, what a shot”, said one fan while the other wrote, “Major comeback for Max Homa, oh my lord.” Well, this comeback was indeed long overdue for Homa, and the golfer knew that. Homa believed a breakthrough is imminent, despite recent setbacks. “Golf does not like me at the moment, I’ve noticed that,” he said after missing the cut at the WM Phoenix Open by five strokes, despite hitting the ball incredibly well. Homa’s coach noted they were just six feet away from being 2-3 under, and Homa felt that he’s moving in the right direction, even if it’s not reflected in the scores.

Drawing inspiration from Jalen Hurts’ quote, “I’ve had purpose long before anybody had an opinion about it,” Homa remained focused on his process, trusting that progress is being made, even if it’s not visible. “I know what I’m capable of,” he said and, dare we say, proved it.

“Outrageously good shot. And for a guy who could use a bit of a confidence boost, this can’t hurt”, said one fan, and well, it really is a much-needed confidence boost for Homa.
