What could be better than having the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, cheer for you as you defend your UFC championship belt? Well, Jon Jones felt that pride as he knocked Stipe Miocic out at UFC 309, and performed the iconic Trump dance in celebration. After thanking the 2-time POTUS, who was just a President-elect at that time, Jones claimed, “I’m proud to be a great American champion. I’m proud to be a Christian-American champion.” But unfortunately, he was deemed the ‘fakest person’ by fight fans. Despite that, the POTUS decided to honor the heavyweight champion with a gift.
Before we take a look at the gift, let’s understand why netizens branded ‘Bones’ fake. You see, Jones has often praised Trump publicly. However, the President hasn’t really said much to praise the heavyweight champion. To make things worse, a few eagle-eyed fans found out that Jones gave Kamala Harris a follow, but not Trump. And thus began the outrage, labelling Jones a ‘fake person’. But Rump could not be bothered in the least. The POTUS has sent forth a gift to show just how much he supports the 37-year-old champion.
Taking to Instagram, Jones shared a video, starting with the gorgeous mountain view of his hometown. And then shifted the view to the gift he received from the President. ‘Bones’ said, “Oh, I love this, guys. Albuquerque, New Mexico. Some of the most beautiful skies, beautiful views. Speaking about beauty, I wanted to give a shout-out to our 45th and 47th President of the United States, Mr. Donald Trump, for giving me this beautiful chalice coin. I’ve had the privilege to meet some pretty amazing American people. I’ve got these coins for some of our country’s best. But this one has to top them all. From the President himself to my mailbox. Great honor. Thank you for this beautiful gift. It will be mounted in the house.”
And in the caption, he wrote, “Thank you for the gift @realdonaldtrump #usa.” It was indeed a proud moment for the heavyweight champ. Of course, rewards and gifts like this made the fighting community wonder if Jones was actually Trump’s favorite UFC fighter. But is he?
Donald Trump sidelines Jon Jones as he picks his favorite UFC fighter
Prior to the 2024 Presidential Elections, Trump had an interview with FullSend MMA. Therein, he made his stance about the GOAT of MMA pretty clear and chose Khabib Nurmagomedov instead of Jones. He said, “So, a lot of people say Jon Jones is the best… Some people would say Khabib. You know, Khabib. He’s 28-0,or 29-0, and then he retired. His father died, and his father was his manager, and I guess his trainer and all. And he died and he, and he just said that’s it.”
But Jones wasn’t upset about it. Reacting to a video of Trump’s words, ‘Bones’ quoted, “I’m not even gonna lie, it feels pretty cool to have the president [Donald Trump] mention Bones as one of the world’s greatest. Pretty litty..” Nevertheless, the 45th and 47th President’s choice seemingly put Jones through sleepless nights. But getting branded as one of the greatest fighters in the world was nothing short of an achievement, wouldn’t you agree?
