As Jon Rahm’s Absence Frustrates Scottie Scheffler, Journalist Forced to Defuse Tensions Sparked by His LIV Golf Comments

So, Scottie Scheffler is in the news. And not for his poor performances this season but because of a comment he made. What about? About LIV golfers and the great golf divide. Talking about the situation and missing “the competition,” the golfer said LIV has “got some pretty good players on their tour.” But this comment came with some other remarks. The golfer blamed the LIV golfers for the divide in men’s professional golf. “I wish some of those guys had stayed, but at the end of the day, they made their choice. They knew the consequences of that decision, and I’m not here to change their minds.” Undoubtedly, frustrated by the situation.

Added to this was his comment about playing with Jon Rahm before the golfer switched to LIV Golf. While the golfer misses playing against Rahm, he also added, “I definitely miss playing against him. I wish he was — I wish we got to do it more often, but definitely will soak in all the opportunities that I get to compete against him going forward.” Inarguably, some fans took offense and called Scheffler “salty.” Others added their bit and said Scheffler’s wish to remove LIV players is “wishful thinking.”

Dan Rapaport did not take this one public reaction well. He came to the World No. 1’s defense and explained the situation. Rapaport explained that he was in call with Scheffler. Hence, he can attest that Scheffler’s tone was polite, unbothered, the furthest thing from salty.” He added transcripts lack tone and hence he has shifted over video content with players. I totally understand where they’re coming from with being hesitant to give quotes in a presser that will be taken out of context, printed, and spread like it’s something it wasn’t.”

This is a developing story…
