Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit and venture capitalist, is known for his relentless passion for innovation and technology. Talking about innovations, well, AI has been the talk of the town for quite a while, and according to Ohanian, the introduction of this is a “real significant technological shift.” In an interview with Yahoo Finance in 2023, while talking about AI, he admitted, “I have not seen anything like this before in my career — it’s that big. This is bigger than the smartphone, bigger than broadband ubiquity, and certainly bigger than social media.” In a previous interview with INBOUND, Williams spoke about how she thinks social media is a “scary world” for her kids and also revealed that she doesn’t allow her kids to be on certain platforms. “I feel we might try to take it slow with her and do a little bit slower with electronics.” How can their daughters get the best out of innovations like AI? Here is what Ohanian had to say on this…
Just a month ago, Alexis Ohanian gave an interview with Forbes, and recently he shared a video clip from that interview on his IG handle. In that clip, he explained how AI actually helps us live better and how his daughters can get the best out of it. “The world we’re entering now is where, thankfully, raw intelligence is going to be commoditized. The things that are going to matter, the things I care about teaching my kids, are less about “capital I” intelligence. Again, that’s going to be a commodity. You’re going to be able to find the answer to anything.”
Serena Williams’ husband further went on to add, “You’re going to have a PhD-level brain at your beck and call whenever you have a question about something. I want to make sure that she understands and has agency, that she has a kind of creativity, that she has a kind of empathy. That emotional intelligence, I think, is actually going to be a lot more valued. Taste is going to be even more valuable.” As per Alexis Ohanian, there are still going to be realms where humans will need to be excellent, and he is quite “excited for that” too. Because he feels a lot of those things are the things that kind of make life more enjoyable.
“If we’re now been able to delegate a sort of raw horsepower and intelligence to an AI, I actually think it gives us more time to do things that make us more human,” Alexis Ohanian. In January 2025, Ohanian made a prediction for tech trends in 2025. He said, that in 2025, he’s expecting AI to finally have its “hardware moment“. Seeing this massive buzz around AI, one may wonder if these innovations create a real threat to creating jobs. In reply to those concerns, a month later, he clarified, “Something becoming abundantly clear: AI won’t take your job. Someone using AI better than you will.“
Is it the first time, though, that we’ve seen him sharing the key human traits he hopes his daughters, Olympia and Adira, retain as AI paves its way to transform the world? Previously, while speaking at the ‘On Purpose with Jay Shetty’ podcast, Serena Williams’ husband highlighted “empathy” as an irreplaceable human trait. “So, what do I want for my kid, or for even for anyone’s kid who’s entering the workforce, is probably to most importantly build skills that I know are going to be durable, call it a decade or two from now. So empathy is a skill that I think will be the last bastion of AI.”
He often shares his creative use of AI through his social media posts. Let’s now take a look at some of his playful moments with this innovation.
Serena Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, teaches us multiple ways to use AI
Be it using AI tools for generating bedtime stories or creating workout routines, Serena Williams‘ husband, Alexis Ohanian, masters all of it. Last year, he was even spotted using AI to create maths problems tailored to Olympia’s interests. He shared that picture on his X handle with the caption, “I started using AI to help write extra math problems for Jr that are all designed around her interests. So far, so good.”
Then, in March 2025, he shared the response of ChatGPT on X, which detailed more information about his true identity. Highlighting the software’s response in his tweet, he wrote, “You’re Alexis Ohanian- venture capitalist, sports team owner, brand builder, and dad, with a love for family, fitness, nostalgia, and the occasional philosophical deep dive.” Seeing this accurate response, Ohanian then lauded it, saying, “Nice job ChatGPT….”
However, sometimes these playful experiments land him in some real trouble. For example, once AI transformed his daughter, Olympia, into an adorable virtual pet. Highlighting this hilarious moment on his X handle, he wrote, “Everyone’s using AI to turn their pets into humans, but I’m here turning my child into a dog.” Later on, he shared the same on his IG stories with the caption, “Oops, I turned @olympiaohanian into a dog.“
Then, in another instance, AI snubbed Adira from a picture. Hence, Serena Williams’ husband had to step in to issue an apology to their elder daughter. With all these instances, we get a clear idea of how much he loves dealing with AI. Share your thoughts on Alexis Ohanian’s love for innovation and technology.
