Angel Reese’s Sympathies Are With Caitlin Clark As Chicago Sky Locker Room Debate Emerges

5 min read

The tides in the WNBA’s version of the Larry Bird–Magic Johnson rivalry seem to shift every month. When the 2025 WNBA season tipped off, many believed it marked the end of the Angel Reese-Caitlin Clark debate. Can you blame them? When you lose a game by 34 points to your rivals and proceed to shoot close to 35% in the next 7 games– you won’t be making yourself any new fans. But like all great athletes, Reese came back, rising from the ashes like a phoenix, and the tides shifted once more. It’s Clark who is struggling now! She is sidelined with her second injury of the season and was also in a shooting slump before the injury. During this crisis, Reese has shown a great amount of sympathy for her rival.

Before her groin injury, Caitlin Clark was struggling with her shooting. She went 1-23 from beyond the arc and scored 36 points on 25.65% shooting over her last three games. The Indiana superstar has now missed 7 games this season. Fans will be hoping she comes back fully fit and raring to go.

But while Clark struggled, Reese found her groove back after a rough start to the season. Following her game-winning performance against the Los Angeles Sparks, where she scored 24 points, 16 rebounds, and 7 assists–Reese managed to create history! She became the first player in WNBA history to record 15+ rebounds in four straight games. But that’s not all! Her shooting efficiency has gone above 40%.

But one of the most overlooked parts of Reese’s game this season has been her ability to get steals. Despite being a big, the Bayou Barbie averages 1.8 steals a game. For context, Napheesa Collier won Defensive Player of the Year last season, averaging 1.91 steals. So, when Reese was asked about how she was able to elevate her game, that’s when her support for Caitlin Clark became evident.

Speaking in the post-game conference, she said,  ” When I was younger, I was a point guard, so point guards kind of have the hardest job on the court. We debate that in the locker room a little bit. Just being able to be there for my teammates and being in the passing lane—obviously, I’m on film every single time when I’m not in the plug, so I try to get there and be there for my team so I don’t have to be on the film. So yeah, just being there and just trying to push through and just get things for my team.”

Well, being a point guard comes with its fair share of challenges. You’re expected to run the offense, set the tempo, and create open looks for your teammates. But in today’s game, a point guard is expected to do more than just make plays! Scoring has also become a huge part of the job. Ask Caitlin Clark about the pressure that comes with being a PG, and she will tell you.

After finishing her rookie season with team-high points and assists, you could tell just how the Fever relied on her for success. That pressure often leads to mental and physical fatigue–which are quite evident with her recent injury issues. Sure, there will always be debates about which position matters most on the court. But honestly, it all comes down to what position you prefer. Reese, a forward herself, believes that playing at point is the toughest. And looking at tonight’s game, she might have a point. Without Ariel Atkins’ 20-point performance, the Sky wouldn’t have pulled off their 5th win.

While Angel Reese continues to shine, she is also setting an example off the court with her new apparel line! Let’s take a look at that.

Angel Reese releases ‘Mebounds’ apparel to counter cyberbullying

Reese has lately been on a mission to shut all her haters up both on and off the court! While she continues to show she can be one of the best players on the court with her performances, her decision to trademark ‘mebounds’ was seen as a game-changer by the W community.

She has now released a full merchandise line built around the now-iconic phrase! From T-shirts and sweatshirts to hats and slides, the collection has something for everyone! The merch is priced around $25-$75, but that’s not even the best part! A portion of the proceeds will go toward supporting cyberbullying prevention through The Angel C. Reese Foundation. Now that’s how you turn fan hatred into something meaningful.

Watching Angel Reese shut her haters up while also acknowledging that players like Caitlin Clark have the toughest job in the sport takes real humility and strength. So now we’re curious… which position do you think is the toughest to play on the court? Let us know in the comments down below!
