Fulfilling the dream of making it to the Olympics is hard enough, but to do that with both your legs amputated? Sounds like fiction. But for one Hunter Woodhall, it has been nothing but facts. But one might ask, what really helped the bladerunner reach the absolute heights of Paralympic glory? Well, as the gold medalist recently revealed, it was some words from his mother that really pushed him. So what were those words? Hunter revealed the secret pep talk his mother gave him all those years ago in his recent visit to Florida.
Hunter Woodhall took to Instagram to share snippets of his recent visit to St. Augustine, Florida, for an event with Comcast. Accompanying Hunter was his beloved wife, Tara Davis. But as the Woodhall couple shared their fun moments, it came time for Hunter to deliver some words on his journey so far. Hunter recalled how, as a kid, he had trouble doing certain stuff. That’s when his mother dropped some advice that he still follows. She said, “Hunter, it’s not that you can’t do it; it’s just that you might have to find another way to do it.”
He mentions, “And that really stuck with me, of like, I just got to get creative with the things I’m doing.” Now, anyone who has followed Hunter knows just how true that has been throughout Hunter’s life. After all, this is the same man who switched from prosthetics to Carbon fiber blades so that he could run better. Now, whenever he comes across an obstacle, the Paralympian just finds a way to get it executed.
But it was not just this one instance that Woodhall’s mother came to his rescue. Ever since his birth, Woodhall’s mother has been taking trips to the doctor’s chamber. Speaking with several specialists, his mother was given the option to cast the legs, straighten them, and even break the legs! But then, Woodhall’s mom did not approve of any of the above.
Taking the decision that was best for her son, the Paralympian’s mother had one of the hardest decisions to make. Despite knowing the success rate was very rare, she opted for a leg amputation. Thankfully, the mother’s instincts worked and Hunter Woodhall’s life changed for good. Moreover, two of his brothers never let him feel inferior and asked him to do all the chores on his own.
This too, helped him become the champion he is today. Naturally, having gone through such significant hardship, Hunter Woodhall sympathizes with budding athletes having trouble making it to the bigger stage. The Paralympian takes his time to meet buddin athletes in various fireside talks to help them. But the athlete has also done quite a bit to raise money so that these budding athletes can look forward to better conditions.
Hunter Woodhall’s thankful plea for raising a big amount to support the sport
The Woodhall couple have taken a major step to uplift track and field! They are aiming to raise a significant amount through their recent fundraiser. While the couple’s initiative has already made an impact, Hunter’s heartfelt message to fans highlighted the ongoing need for support to push the sport forward.
In a video posted on the Tara and Hunter YouTube channel, Hunter expressed gratitude to those who contributed. But he also emphasized that more help is needed. “Thank you guys, like these guys put the money in here,” he said, acknowledging the fans’ role in the fundraiser’s success. The event, tied to the Tara Davis Invitational, saw general admission tickets priced at $11 and children’s tickets at $6, helping generate funds aimed at improving opportunities for young athletes.
Hunter also urged fans to show up at events in larger numbers, stressing the importance of boosting the sport’s visibility. “And the time and energy and the donations to like make a track meet cool man grow the sport give kids a chance to compete have a good time run fast jump far track and Fields on the way up baby and these are the people making it happen,” he said.
His passionate appeal underscores the growing momentum in track and field, with rising events like ATHLOS NYC and Grand Slam Track already gaining traction. The Woodhalls’ dedication to track and field extends beyond this fundraiser, reflecting their long-standing commitment to giving back to the sport. Hunter’s call to action serves as a powerful reminder that track and field’s resurgence depends not only on athletes but also on the community’s support.
